Back in March 2020, my husband and I were both informed we were high risk, we have followed all guidelines and more. We have not seen anyone outside out household, shopping delivered etc.

Today the doctors called my husband, he is getting vaccinated on Wednesday. That's good news. However they do not have me on priority list. Despite my conditions being in the original risk group.

I'm pleased dh is getting the vaccine, but I'm terrified of sending my dc back to school with rates of 190/100,000 and the new variants are just starting.

My sister had terminal cancer and never received a shielding letter which she needed to access priority online food shopping slots etc. The GP said the hospital should have done it and vice versa. Bloody shambles.

Moomoolandmoomooland · 16/02/2021 00:02

She is no longer with us, but I honestly think they probably would have missed her off the vaccine list too!

Floreatfloruit · 16/02/2021 00:05

190/100000 is less than 2 people per thousand with covid, if it helps you to think of it like that?

My kids were all at school with numbers in the 5 and 600s before Christmas. Weren't yours? The trouble with avoidance of risk is that is makes the risk seem riskier if you see what I mean.

lurker101 · 16/02/2021 00:09

Relax, take a moment and think it through, I know it’s stressful.

If your conditions classify you in one of the priority groups and you were advised to shield, contact whoever gave you that advice - GP surgery or consultant. If they have mistakenly not marked you as priority on their systems then they will be able to rectify it. If they mistakenly classified you as vulnerable in March 2020 and now that they know more about the virus deem that not the case, then that’s good news.

It may simply be a miscommunication whereby they are doing some of their priority groups this week and you will be contacted for their next session.

ReallySeriouslyNope · 16/02/2021 00:09

Go with him. When you're there ask if they have any vaccinations spare. I know a few people who have been vacccinated as there were cancellations or no shows and they have to use the vaccinations that day. Also helps if you know anyone who is volunteering as they can let you know if they have any left at the end of the day. Better that they are used than thrown away.

greenlynx · 16/02/2021 00:17

Could your DH go towards the end of the day so you go with him in case of spare vaccine is available? It was in the papers that sometimes there are leftovers so extra people are vaccinated who are available and could benefit from it.

ineedaholidaynow · 16/02/2021 00:18

Some of the criteria has changed as they learn more about the virus.

Does your condition appear on the list:

Do get him to try this - my uncle got his appt before his wife (despite being younger) and mentioned it - wife got hers that afternoon as they had a bit extra vaccine.

They are next week in Scotland and Wales.
DianaT1969 · 16/02/2021 00:22

Yes, go with him and he can ask if there are any spares. Make sure they know you are keen for a spare if you don't get one that day. They have to give them to someone. If your medical situation is asthma, I read that it has been removed from the list. Keep chasing. It might be an admin error.
I can understand your frustration. So close to normality after all this time and yet another hurdle. 💐

Maxsaidno · 16/02/2021 00:25

Echo the advice to go along with DH towards the end of the session. My parents did this last week when one was called up surprisingly before the other. Both got the jab there and then, evidently there are often spares and as PP said they’d rather use them. Good luck.

Maxsaidno · 16/02/2021 00:28

I should add DM waited in the car and dad called her to say they’ve said come in. They weren’t adding to the numbers inside unnecessarily.

converseandjeans · 16/02/2021 00:36

What condition do you have? Sometimes people have health issues but it doesn't necessarily make them more vulnerable to Covid. I don't know which conditions mean people have to shield tbh. Did you get an official shielding letter?

Dementedswan · 16/02/2021 00:38

My medical condition is high BP caused by and enlarged heart, to add to that I also have severe psoriasis.. an auto immune disease

Dh appointment is 2.50.

See if your Dh can have his appointment later in the day.
They so often have spare at the end of business.
You are not alone x

Redsquirrel5 · 16/02/2021 01:13

I agree check with your GP as there was someone on our local news tonight saying a similar thing. The contacted GP and they had accidentally been left out, they have had it now.

DH is going on Wednesday 67 no health problems and never has bar a hernia operation 34 years ago. I have had a call I am 63 and have asthma, high blood pressure and an erratic immune system which means I sometimes have to attend A&E because of allergic reactions I even had one in there once. I went in with a broken arm but the doctor used latex gloves so my arm became swollen and he told me off for not telling him I was allergic. 1. I didn’t know I was allergic to latex and 2. I didn’t expect anyone to be using latex in a hospital A&E as it was only a couple of years ago.
Puzzled how they are deciding. He has been very careful as have our boys to protect me!

ExpulsoCorona · 16/02/2021 01:14

@Dementedswan You are in group 6. Email your practice in the morning to check that you have been coded correctly. Once they rectify the code they'll invite you for your vaccine.

homebase123 · 16/02/2021 01:16

Definitely try at the end of the day. If you manage to get your first one they will then let you book your second one as if you'd had an invite.

ittakes2 · 16/02/2021 01:19

It sounds like you are in group 6 which is starting now. Message your GP surgery to double check your file is coded with your long term conditions. I have read a lot of website's and I have the impression group 5 are being sent a letter by NHS to book and GP surgeries are contacting group 6 themselves to book. Both my hubby and I are also group 6 and parents to teens so I know how you feel.

lunar1 · 16/02/2021 01:21

Change his appointment to later if you can and go with him.

ExpulsoCorona · 16/02/2021 01:27

The NHS website is for group 5 at the moment, not group 6. GPs are arranging group 6 vaccination. Bear in mind not all of group 6 will be done at the same time, it is the biggest group and will take a good few weeks to get through.

Generally anything above 50 is considered to be very high transmission.

Scientists in other countries advise that schools close at 50/100000
