Back in March 2020, my husband and I were both informed we were high risk, we have followed all guidelines and more. We have not seen anyone outside out household, shopping delivered etc.

Today the doctors called my husband, he is getting vaccinated on Wednesday. That's good news. However they do not have me on priority list. Despite my conditions being in the original risk group.

I'm pleased dh is getting the vaccine, but I'm terrified of sending my dc back to school with rates of 190/100,000 and the new variants are just starting.

Quick update.. I went with DH, had to wait in the car as understandably only people being vaccinated allowed in. DH asked about the spare vaccine, apparently have to get in touch with GP.

However it was lovely to see loads of people taking up their vaccines. Big well managed queue and people arriving, leaving etc. I'm pleased up take looks to be high!

On a personal note.. I'm not sure how I would manage going to a vaccine hub with my anxieties and being deaf I need to lip read. Will cross that bridge when it happens.

Thank you for all the supportive responses .

@Dementedswan in your situation I'd book a telephone consultation with your GP to make sure that your heart condition is coded properly in the notes. The psoriasis won't put you in that group unless you are on immunosuppressant medication?

Do you mind me asking how old you are? Hang on in there, your turn will come Flowers

I agree with that, do book a phone appointment. GPs do also have some degree of discretion in adding people to the list.
Don’t worry about going to the hub - your DH should be allowed to go in with you if you explain the situation. That was the case for some when I went in for my jab today.

Dementedswan · 17/02/2021 22:29

I have one on Friday I'm profoundly deaf so have to rely on a third party.

I 90% lip read even if they reviewed medical history there is no wY I can cope with a vaccine hub.

OP posts:
userxx · 17/02/2021 22:37

Why can't you cope with a vaccine hub ? I'm not understanding.

Dementedswan · 17/02/2021 22:49

Because I'm 98% deaf.

High BP, enlarged heart , psoriasis out of control plus profoundly deaf... with anxiety that has landed me in resus.... what is your solution?

OP posts:
Floralnomad · 17/02/2021 22:56

There are usually plenty of volunteers at the hub , if you tell someone that you are deaf and need help they will help you , or take your husband and explain why he is with you . It’s really not a problem .

Dementedswan · 17/02/2021 22:58

I cant do it anymore

ihearttc · 17/02/2021 22:58

Honestly I’m not being unsympathetic but I had to take my 84 year old mother to her vaccine appointment who is also virtually deaf and it was no problem at all. They are used to dealing with all sorts of people with all sorts of medical problems. I’m not sure what you want people to say. You seem to want to magically be in group 6 because of your medical issues but you say you can’t go into a vaccine hub anyway?

Dementedswan · 17/02/2021 22:58

I'm done

OP posts:
ExpulsoCorona · 17/02/2021 22:59

@Dementedswan don't worry the high BP enlarged heart puts you in group 6. It's here in the green book on page 10-11: <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/961287/Greenbook_chapter_14a_v7_12Feb2021.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiI6ISv8_HuAhXLQhUIHVFWCeYQFjAAegQICBAD&usg=AOvVaw2Kn2NYY2Ish-b4veu4vQWc&cshid=1613602521829" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/961287/Greenbook_chapter_14a_v7_12Feb2021.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiI6ISv8_HuAhXLQhUIHVFWCeYQFjAAegQICBAD&usg=AOvVaw2Kn2NYY2Ish-b4veu4vQWc&cshid=1613602521829

When you have your consultation on Friday, make sure this is pointed out and coded in your notes. It may be worth writing this in an email before Friday (apologies if you've already done this) so that the GP can help. Group 6 is massive, each surgery will be figuring out which other they are inviting people. Some will go by age within the group, some by condition, some alphabetically. We're only officially on day 3 of group 6, you'll get there.

Saywhatyoumeanandmeanwhatyousa · 17/02/2021 23:02

Are you OK OP? I’m a little worried about you. It must be really stressful. I’m glad your DH has had his vaccine and that you hear soon about yours

SomethingWycked · 17/02/2021 23:07

Agree its likely a coding issue. My 95 year old Grandma was invited to a hub but she is now housebound. My Aunt who is her carer rang the GP surgery who found she had been coded as wheelchair bound so changed it & she was recently visited at home. As an aside, My Aunt would have been allowed into the hub with her due to this so there are exceptions to going in alone.

I have moderate hearing loss & lip read so I understand what you mean about face masks. It does make life harder for us at the moment. I hope you are soon vaccinated.

userxx · 17/02/2021 23:26

@Dementedswan

High BP, enlarged heart , psoriasis out of control plus profoundly deaf... with anxiety that has landed me in resus.... what is your solution?

Take a third party with you. You're stressing yourself out and creating problems for yourself.

Dementedswan · 17/02/2021 23:28

Thank you. I'm even worried about sharing a bed with dh after him being in vaccine place.

OP posts:
Floralnomad · 18/02/2021 01:22

You need to speak to your GP about your anxiety as it’s completely out of control .

OpheliasCrayon · 18/02/2021 07:28
@Floralnomad

That’s not what I was told by my Rheumatology consultant. I gave RA but don’t take an immunosuppressant only a DMARD. It’s the immunosuppressant that puts you onto the shielding list (and the vaccine list for group 6). I’ve queried it several times over the last year as I’m a TA so our HT and our Academy Trust needed to make sure. Maybe it’s just for RA but seeing as the immunosuppressant does the same thing regardless of the condition then I would have thought it was the same for all.

Regardless if you have to shield or not, having an auto immune condition will not mean the OP is automatically in Group 6 as it’s the medication not the condition which causes the risk factor.
You're both incorrect

An autoimmune disorder doesn't count as shielding in and of itself

DMARDS and immunosuppressants do not either.

DMARDS and / or immunosuppressants = clinically vulnerable.

A DMARD + immunosuppressant plus an flare of disease in the last 6 months and / or taking more than 20mg of steroids and / or being over 70 and / or having high blood pressure = sheilding

OpheliasCrayon · 18/02/2021 07:33

OP of everything you have going on at this point I would say your anxiety is the most concerning. I have multiple autoimmune diseases and have been on the shielding list since the start (I haven't shielded though) so I understand how complex health issues can be , however your anxiety sounds the most all encompassing at the moment. There is no reason at all that you shouldn't share a bed with your husband. You truly deserve help to feel better because this is no way to live.

OverTheRainbow88 · 18/02/2021 08:04

I would take a pen and notebook to your appointment when you get one and ask the person to write down instead of talking.

You will get your vaccine, it may just be a bit longer to wait.

ihearttc · 18/02/2021 09:04

@OpheliasCrayon

Where did you get that information from? That must have been what my consultant meant? I only take a DMARD (Hydroxychloroquine) so clearly I wouldn’t be in Group 6 but she said if I took it plus Methotrexate (which I’m supposed to do) I’d be vulnerable (which is what I meant by shielding). Apologies for being confused with shielding and vulnerable.

But it seems like it’s the Immunosuppressants which makes you vulnerable rather than the disease itself which was the point I was trying (and failing because of my inability to explain anything!) to the OP.

Floralnomad · 18/02/2021 10:35

@OpheliasCrayon well I don’t fully fit the criteria that you have stated either and I’m still coded into group 6 as are others I know of with the same condition , I never said I was in group 4 and it was group 6 criteria that I was disagreeing with @ihearttc about .
