Back in March 2020, my husband and I were both informed we were high risk, we have followed all guidelines and more. We have not seen anyone outside out household, shopping delivered etc.

Today the doctors called my husband, he is getting vaccinated on Wednesday. That's good news. However they do not have me on priority list. Despite my conditions being in the original risk group.

I'm pleased dh is getting the vaccine, but I'm terrified of sending my dc back to school with rates of 190/100,000 and the new variants are just starting.

I echo the advice to go with him and ask if there is a surplus. My great aunt got here this way when she’d been missed by her gp. Good luck.

FidgetArse · 16/02/2021 01:56

Worth a try! If not you could ring 119 and see if they could help you at all

OpheliasCrayon · 16/02/2021 06:12
@Dementedswan You are in group 6. Email your practice in the morning to check that you have been coded correctly. Once they rectify the code they'll invite you for your vaccine.
OP may be in group 4 depending on what medication she takes for her psoriasis, and how active it is

110APiccadilly · 16/02/2021 07:30

Can you speak to your GP and ask to be contacted if they have doses going spare? I know someone who's CV but not ECV who got a vaccine this way - they had to be able to get to the GP's at very short notice but if you can do that it might be an option.

EileenGC · 16/02/2021 07:41

Generally anything above 50 is considered to be very high transmission.

Scientists in other countries advise that schools close at 50/100000

This. Where I am schools are only reopening for years 1-3 next week, and that's because we've finally achieved a rate of 40/100k.

Where my family lives the rates are around 1,000 per 100k and the schools never closed, but there is social distancing in place and compulsory (medical) masks from the age of 6. Not comparable to UK schools where none of this is happening.

I'm sorry OP. I would double and triple check with the GP that you have actually been taken off the priority list. It could have been a glitch.

snowydaysandholidays · 16/02/2021 07:50

Your issue is not the school, but the fact they have missed you off. Speak to your GP today and ask to be included, any decent doctor would simply add to the list if they considered you high risk.

Maybe your condition means you are not high risk though, have you considered that? You might think you are, but you are not.

If you are that worried, continue to home school once they have reopened and let the school know, really no big deal at all.

DianaT1969 · 16/02/2021 08:01

2.50 is a good time. They may already have people who missed a slot, and they know someone is outside, ready for when they have a spare. Ask your DH to tell them that you'll be in the car until the end of the day. Bring a book and a flask. Hopefully you'll get done.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-on-shielding-and-protecting-extremely-vulnerable-persons-from-covid-19/guidance-on-shielding-and-protecting-extremely-vulnerable-persons-from-covid-19#cev

there are two outcomes here:
Either you fulfil the criteria set above, in which case your GP will code and then vaccinate you.

Or, you don’t, in which case you are not high risk. Which is great news for you.

Clearly don’t know your history but high blood pressure is not on the list....

Either way, no need to cry.

eleflump · 16/02/2021 08:30

Would also suggest going with him and asking about spare vaccine - my friend (aged 49, no medical conditions) went with her DH the other day and they offered her a vaccine as some people had not attended for their appointments and it would have been wasted otherwise. Good luck.

HappyHedgehog247 · 16/02/2021 08:35

You may be in Group 4 if taking immunosuppressive therapies for your autoimmune. I’d just clarify with the Dr.

EspressoExpresso · 16/02/2021 08:43

Did either of you receive a shielding notification? If so put your nhs number in on the website from a previous poster and you will be able to book.

Otherwise, you won't be waiting long, at the rate they're getting through vaccines.

Besides, having a vaccine doesn't give you instant immunity, it's not going to be an overnight problem solver. You get some protection about 3 weeks later, and still require the second dose 12 weeks after the first, then a week or two for the full level of protection that it can offer.

NeedaCushion · 16/02/2021 08:46

If you have a shielding letter go with him and take it with you. You might need your passport or driving licence. They will probably do yours too. I know a couple of people who did this and it was fine.

SignsofSpring · 16/02/2021 08:57

Don't cry, but do take action by contacting the doctor, email them reminding them of your conditions (and if you take meds for them) and say you think you should be in a priority group. Then call them on the phone if they don't reply within a day or so.

It does sound like you should get a vaccine to me.

tara66 · 16/02/2021 09:21

You need NHS number proof when you go with DH. They will probably be glad to do you together.

ihearttc · 16/02/2021 09:25

Auto immune conditions don’t fulfil the criteria unless you are taking specific medications. I have 2 auto immune conditions but because I only take DMARDs not immunosuppressants I don’t qualify. The people who do qualify as a result of auto immune conditions have been on the shielding list from the start. If that’s the case then they have missed you off so a simple phone call should sort it out. If you haven’t been on the shielding then then unfortunately you don’t qualify under Group 6.

Mimilamore · 16/02/2021 09:48

I went with my husband, who is high risk, last Monday. It had just been announced over 65s would be next. I'm 66 but had not had a letter. Asked if it was possible for me to have mine and it was no problem at all

november90 · 16/02/2021 10:08

@ReallySeriouslyNope I echo what the poster said!
My close family friend was offered his vaccine and asked if his wife could come and drive him and they offered her a vaccine at the same time. She wasn't on any priority list and was booked a day in advanced! I think sometimes it's worth just pushing and asking!
I haven't read the whole thread so sorry if I've missed something but hope you get it sorted soon OP ❤️

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 16/02/2021 12:47

Have you emailed your GP?

Hope you can get it soon!

If you don't get a reply from
Your GP before DH goes, I'd definitely go with him & get him to ask.

converseandjeans · 16/02/2021 23:10

demented did you get an official shielding letter? It might be that you think you're vulnerable but not on the list as such. Just go along with DH as it sounds likely you will be able to have yours too.

Dementedswan · 16/02/2021 23:14

Thank you for the responses. I haven't been able to get in touch with the GP. I'm going to take dh for his tomorrow and he's going to ask them to check whilst he is there.

If indeed I have been taken off the list, then that's good news I guess and I'll have to wait my turn.

Doesn’t your blood pressure with enlarged heart fit the category of ‘hypertension with cardiac complication’? That’s in the green book for one of the group 4 conditions. I would be checking with the GP and specifically querying that point

Floralnomad · 16/02/2021 23:41

@ihearttc

This is not true , I have an auto immune condition ( I have 3 actually ) that puts me into group 6 but did not qualify me for a shielding letter. I have always been classed as clinically vulnerable never CEV .
FidgetArse · 17/02/2021 00:11

Nearly 2M have been added to the list as of today
So you may now be on there

ihearttc · 17/02/2021 10:09

@Floralnomad

That’s not what I was told by my Rheumatology consultant. I gave RA but don’t take an immunosuppressant only a DMARD. It’s the immunosuppressant that puts you onto the shielding list (and the vaccine list for group 6). I’ve queried it several times over the last year as I’m a TA so our HT and our Academy Trust needed to make sure. Maybe it’s just for RA but seeing as the immunosuppressant does the same thing regardless of the condition then I would have thought it was the same for all.

Regardless if you have to shield or not, having an auto immune condition will not mean the OP is automatically in Group 6 as it’s the medication not the condition which causes the risk factor.

Floralnomad · 17/02/2021 10:26

@ihearttc , I completely agree that having an autoimmune condition does not automatically put you in group 6 but there are lots of us that are in group 6 for autoimmune issues that have never had to shield . That is the point I was correcting in your original post so yes your consultant was incorrect in what they told you .
