Anyone decided to get a second test?

My 9 year old DD came down with cold symptoms last Wednesday she woke up coughing. Got a test and it came back negative.

Ongoing coughing on and off since. Today she’s been coughing pretty much nonstop all day. She’s got asthma and already had to use inhaler 3 times today.

There has been a confirmed case at her school but not in her bubble.

Should I get a second test or just accept that she’s got a cold?

I got my daughter tested back in september as she had lost her sense of smell/taste and was off colour. I booked her in for a test then I spoke to a gp. He said if results came back negative and her symptoms got worse or didnt improve then rebook in for another test. She was negative and she felt better after about 48 hours.

Under the circumstances I dont think it would be unreasonable to get your DD retested. And it isnt a silly question, it's a valid one!

Hope you get an answer and your DD feels better soon.

@DustingMyselfOff thank you!

Interesting what your GP said.

It wasnt my GP, the call came from a covid call centre. Somehow when I tried to book her test online I managed to submit the details to a triage service, her symptoms were submitted online then someone would call you back in the hour. I clicked the wrong link I guess but glad I did - he was very informative. Basically explained that if she got a negative and still displayed symptoms its could just be that not enough of a sample was taken. She struggled to do the test and wouldnt let me do it for her (shes terrified of all things health related after a bad experience with a dr once).

Go with your gut, if you think she will tolerate another test then do it. Then if it comes back negative again you can then get onto your gp knowing shes clear of covid and they can get on with treating the asthma!
