Could I be refused a vaccination?

I am due to start a job as a carer later this month, and have been told by the employer that I am eligible for the vaccine as will be frontline social care. I’m already the main carer for my mother which would put me in band 6, but in the new paid carer role I will be in band 2. I don’t yet have a signed contact, but have been able to book my appointment for Tuesday.

Will they turn me away without proof of the job or will it be ok to explain? It’s at a mass vaccination centre in the South East of England if that makes a difference?

If you have an appointment, you’ll be fine. They check your identity not eligibility at the centre.

PrinceRogersNelson · 14/02/2021 20:48

They don’t ask why you’re there. If you have an appointment you will be seen and vaccinated.

lorisparkle · 14/02/2021 20:51

Just to say when I went to have my vaccination as a health and social care worker I did have to show my ID badge or pay slip. I would check what the information you were sent said. Our email we received certainly clarified what we needed to take.

lorisparkle · 14/02/2021 20:53

If you have your job letter offer I wonder if they would accept that, They checked my ID and the ID of those in front of me in the queue.

CoffeeRunner · 14/02/2021 20:54

You need some sort of photo ID card or payslip etc to go to the Health Care Worker vaccination centre here.

Do you have your start date in writing? That could potentially be enough along with photo ID.

Spongebobsquarefringe · 14/02/2021 20:57

I’m in same position I’m going to take all my documents to my work place tomorrow hoping to get my ID I have job offer letter, contract, also proof i am a carer for my relative. Got mine booked for weds

Lovemusic33 · 14/02/2021 20:58

I’m having mine tomorrow as a care worker and am taking evidence with me (letter from the person who pays me and a invoice), I am self employed so had to book myself for the vaccination. If your employer booked it for you then you should be ok, if you booked it then you will need a letter from your employer.

Ok thanks

Healthcare worker. I had to take work ID or photo ID plus a letter from my employer.

You probably have a letter telling you you've got the job? If so, I would take that, plus passport or driving licence.

If not, I'd suggest contacting your new employer and asking them to put something in writing confirming your employment.

Snowpatrolling · 14/02/2021 21:53

Health care worker here. All I needed was my nhs number. They didn’t ask for I’d but did ask me what job I did.

mondaymusing · 14/02/2021 22:02

I had this problem about two weeks ago. I took photo id and had my contract in my emails on my phone to show them and that was fine.

froggers1 · 14/02/2021 22:12

That's me tomorrow! I'm quite nervous!

choirmumoftwo · 14/02/2021 22:15

I work in a vaccination centre. The only reason we ask if you work in health or social care, or if you're a carer, is for demographics. We don't ask for ID and if you don't fit into the demographic categories, we mark 'none of the above'.
The same online form is used everywhere but centres may differ in how they ask the question.

Imissmoominmama · 14/02/2021 22:15

I took my contract, the invitation letter that my employer had given me, and my photo driving licence. They asked for all three.

Thedogshow · 14/02/2021 22:21

Thanks everyone. Will take letter from employer. Hope it will be ok. Will let you know.

I had my vaccination this afternoon, I had to show a letter from my employer/client and my invoices (im self employed), they were quite strict and said they have had a few people try and lie to get vaccinations. I held the queue up for a bit as they had to get someone else to check my id.

Trumpetpants · 15/02/2021 22:38

Hi they just asked me to confirm my date of birth, no ID needed, 3 weeks ago x

Babymamamama · 15/02/2021 22:40

I had to show my ID badge.

Thedogshow · 16/02/2021 16:25

Just to report back. They were quite strict. I was vaccinated in the end but had to show letter from employer, emails etc. They did quiz me- employers name, how I was paid.
It was quite nerve wracking, but all fine in the end. Very relieved.

That's strange, given that you qualified in group 6 anyway, which most areas are now starting or close to starting.
