If audiences/spectators are allowed at events this summer, will you go?

I have various plans to attend sporting events and theatre shows this summer, some held over from last year, some booked in hope things will be normal, some booked with social distancing plans in place. I don't know if they will go ahead, but if they do, I'll be there. But I've been watching the Aus Open this week and they've said that despite a daily capacity of 30,000, they haven't had anywhere near those numbers in. Presumably people don't feel safe enough going, because I would imagine those tickets would sell out easily in normal times (or maybe there just aren't enough locals interested and fans from further away can't travel?). So it made me think, if events like Wimbledon go ahead this summer, will there be an appetite for it?

Yes if no mask.

DianaT1969 · 13/02/2021 17:45

I would love to go if no masks outside. Something like Wimbledon or a music festival on a sunny day with lots of space.

Donatella · 13/02/2021 17:46

@ThroughThickAndThin01

Yes, have booked several England test match tickets 🤞🏼
Might see you there!!

Yes unless you have to wear a mask.

cardibach · 13/02/2021 17:49

Why so many people saying only if no mask? Seems mad - such a small thing to allow something you love. Unless these things are ‘nice to have’ not ‘key to enjoying life’. Gigs and theatre are the latter for me and I’d happily go wearing a mask. I’ll be in there like swimwear as soon as it’s allowed.

AgeLikeWine · 13/02/2021 17:51

Assuming I have been vaccinated, yes of course. Why wouldn’t I?

I’m planning to buy my Test match tickets this week.

Igglepigglepeppaandgeorge · 13/02/2021 17:55

@cardibach because we hate masks that much. Its propaganda that they dont distress anyone.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 13/02/2021 17:56

Yes, in a heartbeat. I can't wait to get back to sporting events, concerts, the theatre, and am happy to wear a mask to do so - if it's a choice between events with a mask and no event I will take events with a mask every day, I need my life back.
I have concerts in May, June and November, all rescheduled from last year. The November one has been rescheduled twice now. Not sure I am overly hopeful any with go ahead but if they do I will be there.

Bluntness100 · 13/02/2021 17:57

I was booked to see queen in June at the o2 and it’s just been delayed till 2022. To be honest I think it’s the right decision.

I’d not do inside ones like that, close proximity, but I’d consider some outside ones if I could distance, I’d not be up the mosh pit though...😂

EmmanuelleMakro · 13/02/2021 17:58

Hell, yes!!!!

Polar81 · 13/02/2021 18:01

Yes definitely, especially if there are no masks. Doubt it if not.

TempsPerdu · 13/02/2021 18:02

Definitely yes, can’t wait to get back out there, but the idea of masks puts me off. Find it very difficult to talk/project my voice while wearing one and can’t imagine being able to sit through e.g. a three hour play without being hugely distracted by it.

MixedUpFiles · 13/02/2021 18:02

I’d consider it if
It’s very reduced capacity
I’ve been vaccinated
No masks

Why no masks? Because I am claustrophobic. I’ve been managing short essential outings using cbt techniques to stave off panic attacks, but come home exhausted and stressed. Entertainment just isn’t worth a mask.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 13/02/2021 18:05

There's a Horse Show near me that I'll go to if they run it. I imagine they will as it's naturally quite socially distant and easy enough to change the bits that aren't. Id happily wear a mask.

I'd go to a country show

And there's a 2 day music festival within walking distance. It's a really local thing, just one stage and more if a bring a picnic type event than a young people's gig, if that's on, I'll go.

But I won't go to indoor event, unless the rates are very very low, but with schools, shops & hospitality due to open in spring, I really don't see that being the case.

Theatre is my love. I won’t enjoy it with a mask. I think that’s fairly easy to understand.

It isn’t that you are more passionate about theatre @cardibach. It is that you mind wearing a mask less.

megletthesecond · 13/02/2021 18:10

No.
I just want kids to have a decent shot at school next winter and for the NHS to get back to normal(ish). Will do the bare minimum for the next year. A haircut and staying with family is my highest hope.

cardibach · 13/02/2021 18:21

It’s not propaganda. Most people I know aren’t that bothered. Loads of people wear them all day at work. I know some people can’t, a very good friend is exempt for mental health reasons, it just seems that a large proportion of people on this thread were saying it and it seemed odd. It’s a really, really small proportion of people who can’t wear them. Nobody likes them, but my life is so much the richer for experiencing the arts I’m more than happy to put up with them. I recognise some won’t be able to, but it seems way too many to be genuine event lovers on this thread.
If you asked me would I wear a mask and go to a football match I’d say no - because I wouldn’t go to a football match either way. If people are doing that, they risk making theatres and venues resist opening as they might think they wouldn’t have an audience. That would be very sad and not, in fact, the case.

CeeJay81 · 13/02/2021 18:21

I'm suprised how many people are saying they'll go to indoor events with no mask. It'll be several years before theatres are open without measures such as masks. It'd be the perfect environment for the virus to thrive. Lots of people in an unventilated room. I'll be doing outdoor things mostly this year. If I go to any large events it'll be outdoors.

cardibach · 13/02/2021 18:22

Ok, @PersonaNonGarter. I’m sure there are some people who feel like that. As I’ve said above, the proportion on this thread seems off. I’d do lots of things I really, really hate to be allowed into a theatre or music venue again.

Pinkmarsh · 13/02/2021 18:23

If I had to wear a mask - no but otherwise yes x

Why on earth would it be several years before theatres are open without measures such as masks? I imagine if they open this year masks will be needed, but why would that continue for several years? You are aware that we have vaccines?
Biscuitsneeded · 13/02/2021 18:31

I will be going to the theatre as soon as it's allowed, to support an industry I love. And I will do whatever it takes to be in the audience - sit distanced from others, have my temperature taken, wear a mask, do a lateral flow test beforehand, do without an interval etc - all fine. Those fussing about a mask are being petty and ridiculous. I went to Regent's Park outdoor theatre in the summer and forgot I was even wearing one as soon as I got immersed in the show. Are you really going to delay your return to everything that makes life worth living for some silly libertarian hill you stubbornly insist you want to die on? Grow up!

AgeLikeWine · 13/02/2021 18:35

@Biscuitsneeded

I couldn’t agree more. It’s pathetic. People need to stop bleating about masks, woman up & get on with it.

Just as you are entitled to your opinion, others are entitled to theirs. No need to get so cross Grin
