Just wondering what the view is on this? I for one will not be allowing it

I would allow my son to be part of the trial if he chose to be. He’s 15 and man-size. 6’2”.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/02/2021 15:42

I’d imagine a lot of parents with very vulnerable children would volunteer if allowed. Especially if it’s the only way to get their child vaccinated.

Barbie222 · 13/02/2021 15:42

It suddenly seems very important to minimise spread in young children. Previously with the old variant no one seemed overly concerned about childhood cases. I think there must be evidence that the new variant uses younger children as a reservoir somewhat more than the old.

ThePricklySheep · 13/02/2021 15:42

My 12 year old daughter was fairly ill with it (taken 3 months to be anything like better). I’d be reassured about her future if she could be vaccinated, as this might be around for a while/for ever.

elephantsneverforgot · 13/02/2021 15:47

Hmm think it's the 'Testing' bit that scares me I understand getting a vaccine is important but not sure I would be first inline to volunteer my child as a lab rat

Reading between the lines at home where where we had an old strain outbreak last year and a new strain one this year, I’d say that’s very likely, Barbie. If you look at how infections in secondary age pupils have dropped in the UK this lockdown compared to other age groups that backs it up.

Useruseruserusee · 13/02/2021 15:49

There are many CEV children and it’s really important a vaccine is available for them. My CEV child is only three but if he was old enough I would have no qualms with him being part of a Stage 3 trial.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/02/2021 15:52

I can understand that OP. If you have a child with no underlying risk factors I can see why you wouldn’t.

PurpleDaisies · 13/02/2021 15:54

There’s no reason to think it won’t be safe or effective in children. All vaccines needed trialling once. I’d happily take part.

You won’t need to. There will be heaps of parents keen to give their child the chance to have some level of protection.

No one is being treated as a ‘lab rat’. As with all clinical trials, it is regulated and you can withdraw yourself at any time.

I feel like this thread is worded in a way to encourage backlash and suspicion 🤷‍♀️

EndoplasmicReticulum · 13/02/2021 15:57

I'd volunteer my teens, in fact they'd volunteer themselves.
If they were younger I'd be happy for them to have it too.
Lab rats, or indeed guinea pigs.

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 13/02/2021 16:01

I’d be fine with it. My older two would want to. I’d be happy to consent for my younger two.

Torvean · 13/02/2021 16:02

Dont worry OP the country doesn't need your precious child in order to find something suitable for their age.

I was an adult volunteer, i was no lab rat. Neither would any children be.

Volunteers are used for new medications not just vaccinations.

I just hope you're not front of the queue if something is released.

elephantsneverforgot · 13/02/2021 16:04

Oh shut up I'm allowed to not want mine to have it was curious how many others would of that is all

I cried when I read this news today.
My ds is 10, clinically vulnerable and has shielded for most of the year.
His sister's (14 and 13) worried when they were at school about bringing it home to him.
I have several friends who also have medically vulnerable children, we are all feeling as though there is a light at the end of the tunnel, maybe not until the end of the year, but it will hopefully signal a return to some semblance of normality.
If we were in the right area my dds would sign up (ds couldnt, as they do not trial on children with extensive medical problems). Fortunately there will be many children who are put forward for the trials, for which I am hugely grateful.
This is the link if anyone is interested covid19vaccinetrial.co.uk/childrens-trial

Your language is highly emotive OP. Tabloid like in fact.

I understand how you feel, I feel as though CEV children have been forgotten. My three year old hasn’t been anywhere in a year and it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope there will be a further trial for children below the age of six at some point.

elephantsneverforgot · 13/02/2021 16:08

Well looks like from this thread people are onboard with it that's good for them just wanted to read the room on this one haha people will always look for some kind of argument on here Grin

I'd add, if anyone is on Twitter...the responses to this news are eyewatering - it's apparently child abuse, discusting and horrifik.

Useruseruserusee · 13/02/2021 16:11

OP imagine one of your children is shielding, then think of the hope this news will give to so many families across the country. Like I said, it will not apply to us as my shielding child is only 3 but it will be transformative for other families. Many shielding children have not been to school or nursery in a year. My child hasn’t and has no hope of it until the community transmission rate becomes very low.

HazeyJaneII · 13/02/2021 16:11

@Useruseruserusee
I really hope as the trials move forward, it will speed up any future trial for younger children - or if CEV, they will consider it on a case by case basis. Flowers

elephantsneverforgot · 13/02/2021 16:12

I'm extremely grateful for anyone who tests any thing for others greater good that's no doubt just I wouldn't sign my child up although I would personally sign myself up that's the difference

Fortunately #medtwitter and #epitwitter are suitably jubilant at this huge step forward 😁
Useruseruserusee · 13/02/2021 16:13

Thanks @HazeyJaneII, it’s all a step in the right direction.

cracracatlady · 13/02/2021 16:13

My CEV teenager won’t be in the trial
