Just wondering what the view is on this? I for one will not be allowing it

Are people in favour then of children to not go back to school until vaccine is approved for them ? This is not a dig at anyone just wondering

@riveted1
I'll check them out! Nothing quite like feeling buoyed by a bit of news for the first time in months, only to be called a child abuser who clearly wants to sacrifice their child to The New World Order!!

HazeyJaneII · 13/02/2021 16:16

@cracracatlady

My CEV teenager won’t be in the trial
Young people who are medically vulnerable wouldn't qualify anyway

No, and I see no indication that it will happen that way. I imagine it would be like the flu vaccine programme currently, where all children are offered the vaccine but it’s not compulsory. I would be very happy for my healthy six year old to have it to help establish herd immunity.

@elephantsneverforgot

Oh shut up I'm allowed to not want mine to have it was curious how many others would of that is all
Is there a need to tell people to shut up because they disagree with you.

My girls are too young and have allergies so would be excluded from the trial. I’m not sure if I would consent to them being in a trial. I think I would but it’s hard to know when your not in that situation.

elephantsneverforgot · 13/02/2021 16:20

They started it first by being rude

I would certainly allow my children to take part of they wanted to. There’s nothing particularly out of this world about the Oxford Covid vaccine, it’s a new vaccine, yes, but tried and tested technology. As far as I can see is that the main point of testing will be with regards to efficacy in younger age groups. I have almost no concerns regarding safety.

To that my Dad would say “If they jumped off a cliff first would you follow?”.

I saw people objecting to your stance but it didn’t notice anyone being rude.

@elephantsneverforgot

Hmm think it's the 'Testing' bit that scares me I understand getting a vaccine is important but not sure I would be first inline to volunteer my child as a lab rat
Well don't then Hmm

Op I won’t be allowing it, but I am grateful for anyone wishing to test it in my place.
buttheywereonlysatellites · 13/02/2021 16:48

It's a headline from the Guardian, of all places.
Loads of comments on the article on FB about child abuse, lab rats etc. Oddly these people can't really explain how previous childhood vaccines were developed Hmm

herecomesthsun · 13/02/2021 16:54

Nothing wrong with the Guardian.

Nothing wrong with this trial either.

buttheywereonlysatellites · 13/02/2021 16:57

@herecomesthsun I am Guardian reader. I just think the use of "testing" in the headline was going to bring out the worse in people. It feels rather click-baity.

And mine would say mind your business was nothing to do with you

Maybe this thread didn't go the way the OP expected?

It's not going to be like Edward Jenner and James Phipps.

I was taught to step in when I saw someone being unpleasant or hurtful to others. I guess all have different ideas of what is positive behaviour.
LimitIsUp · 13/02/2021 18:13

So pleased they are starting this study.

"They started it" Grinso funny. My kids say that!
Scottishgirl85 · 13/02/2021 18:24

You do realise that it's a legal obligation for pharmaceutical companies to test all medicines on children, unless there is no medical benefit over existing paediatric treatments, or the disease does not occur in children? And thank goodness that obligation is there to ensure children have access to important treatments. Paediatric clinical trials are standard part of medicine development.

This!
DayBath · 13/02/2021 18:28

Asked my 8 year old and she was really up for it! She's had a lot of health scares in her time so she's a tough little thing. We looked online to volunteer but sadly its not in our area.

They aren't giving the kids a completely new vaccine. They're just testing ones that have already been proven safe in adults. It's more of a formal red tape process than the crazy experiment people make it out to be!

PoochiePlush · 13/02/2021 18:31

Thank goodness they are starting trials in kids. How can we ever get back to normality if all the population

Watsername · 13/02/2021 18:57

I think it's great! How do they decide who is part of the study?

You email the organisers

covid19vaccinetrial.co.uk/childrens-trial

You need to live near one of the test centres

The thread this morning was very positive about this trial. Good to see that is one is going that way too.
