Vaccine group question

Veuvestar · 12/02/2021 19:43

If your partner is cev and had shielding letter are you eligible to get the vaccine with them? Or does there have to be a reason for you personally to be in a higher group?

I know my dad got his letter and the surgery booked my mum in too, but they’re over 70’s.

These are young people

Has anyone heard of this?

Only the CEV person is eligible for the vaccine. No one else, unless you are their carer. I believe carers are Group 6.

MrsHusky · 12/02/2021 19:48

No, unfortunately not :(

If the Vaccine place has spares and you're caring for them, they can offer, but otherwise you'll have to wait!

My Sister in law was shielding and had hers, her husband has to wait until group 6 for his own conditions didnt qualify for shielding.

Veuvestar · 12/02/2021 20:14

It’s not a carer situation
I think someone has a condition that they haven’t told me about and I’m concerned

OP posts:
Summerflowers101 · 12/02/2021 20:48

I’m CEV and lots of people I’m close to have no idea, my reason is Crohn’s disease

Akire · 12/02/2021 20:49

You could try booking an appointment at the end of the day and see if they have any spare.

Veuvestar · 12/02/2021 21:07

I’ve not explained this properly
Someone I know has booked their vaccine, sent a link from gp. They are young and fit and healthy afaik. Their partner has a shielding letter, so thought it might be linked to that.

@Veuvestar They might be in Group 6 .. Clinically Vulnerable, but not CEV. .Just they have something underlying that would mean catching covid is a worse idea than for the average person. Some GPs are classifying asthma as group 6

Round where I am they are doing the group 9 already (50yos). I wouldn't too concerned being group 6 covers loads of conditions that aren't normally life threatening or limiting.

Didkdt · 12/02/2021 22:05

There could be a number of reasons for this some more serious than others,
However if they have a reason and haven’t shared you need to respect that

Norah8 · 12/02/2021 22:09

Not automatically no unless they arw in receipt of carers allowance

Phyzzy · 12/02/2021 22:13

I know a young adult who was invited for vaccine, she queried it and was told it was because of her asthma. It's very mild and she doesn't even use a preventor inhaler. Maybe it's something like that?

Thatwentbadly · 12/02/2021 22:14

@Phyzzy then she shouldn’t have been invited.

Household members of people with CEV aren’t entitled to the vaccine any earlier but there a couple of exceptions including if the person with CEV has blood cancer.

Butterfly44 · 12/02/2021 22:21

If they are CEV and attended with a carer they may very well have been vaccinated also. How do you know this person has no underlying condition despite being young? Also is it any of your business? Our GP surgery is on cohort 6 already. Registered carers are also in group 6. They can be young healthy and are totally entitled.

Butterfly44 · 12/02/2021 22:24

@Norah8 Nope. Unpaid carers in group 6. Read up on what a registered carer is. It's not related to careers allowance which is a benefit. Different to being a registered carer which is on someones NHS record.

Veuvestar · 12/02/2021 22:27

They’re not a carer

It’s a sibling that’s been called for their vaccine, so I’m concerned. It’s a family joke that they’re never sick and never go to the doctors

OP posts:
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 12/02/2021 22:29

No, I'm ECV but DH can't have his until he's due.

mynameiscalypso · 12/02/2021 22:30

My DH had his jab today. He never goes to the doctor but has mild and well controlled asthma. It's on his notes so he got one.

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 12/02/2021 22:33

As a general rule no. But I'm a vaccinator and in my area (a part of Central London) we are currently booking in anyone within the same household of a CEV patient. So they may have been offered it due to their partner's shielding status.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 12/02/2021 22:43

Do they do a job that counts. A friend is a bus driver and they're being given extras left over at the moment.

People who work in special schools etc are being called in some areas too.

RuthW · 12/02/2021 23:20

We are just starting group 6. They are the ones that are normally eligible or flu jabs.

Veuvestar · 12/02/2021 23:46

Just seen on a local fb page that this surgery seem to be quite far ahead with the groups
A young mild asthmatic going for vaccination

I got a letter for a flu jab this year, I assumed it was over 50’s?

OP posts:
Oblomov21 · 13/02/2021 08:37

A young mild asmatic? If it's so mild you are questioning whether it qualifies?

Severe asthma is listed in conditions, as is being overweight, which would put them in group 6.

Here in Surrey we are already doing group 7, the over 60's and moving on shortly to group 8, the over 55's.

No, the person on the fb page was a mild asthmatic

It seems they are onto group 6 in that area and are classing her mild asthma as making her vulnerable. It's her own GP that's invited her.

LIZS · 13/02/2021 10:45

"Mild" asthmatics are grp 9. There is something you are missing, do they work in a care capacity or nhs? . @Oblomov21 not reached group 6 in this part of Surrey yet.

Veuvestar · 13/02/2021 10:46

It would seem individual gp’s surgeries are making their own call about asthma severity.
I have another sibling who’s been hospitalised for asthma on many occasions but somehow isn’t classed as severe.
