Donating Plasma for trials

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 12/02/2021 08:40

I can see there have been previous threads on this.

I thought the trials had been stopped, but was surprised to receive a text asking me to consider donating plasma.
Seems the first trials were inconclusive, but they're experimenting with sub groups and collecting plasma "just in case"

I'm pondering whether to participate
Has anyone donated plasma?
Would you donate, given the restricted application of the plasma?

I looked into it but there are strict height weight rules and I cannot do it, I don't weigh enough. I am only 5ft 3 and have to weigh over 13 stones to be able to donate! Grin

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 12/02/2021 10:29

I would, if I were eligible - as DM says, comparatively few women can donate.

eastegg · 12/02/2021 12:35

Yes dangerous, I was baffled by this! It said I needed to be 12st something at 5'4".

Noneedtocry · 12/02/2021 12:47

It is hard for women - I did pass the height / weight requirements. I went in for a test to see if I had the right antibodies... but didn't even get a blood test because the nurse said my veins wouldn't be "big" enough.

I'm surprised they are still going on too, I thought the trials had shown no positive impact and recently read that convalescent plasma treatment might encourage new variants to mutate! Confused

I probably do meet the requirements - bit uncertain about how worthwhile it is (mutant everydayisaduvetday variant coming up?)
I might give them a call.

I did have a text and went through to the form. I have received plasma in the past though so cannot now donate it which is a shame. I'm sure I would meet the weight requirements though Blush

Abraxan · 12/02/2021 17:06

I wasn't tall enough as only 5 foot. Had to weigh a lot more to have been able to even get last that first bit.
I can't give blood due to medication so not sure I'd be eligible anyway.
