Would it be really wrong

To go for a walk with my friend and DD?
I know we can exercise with a friend whilst social distancing but it's only suppose to be one other person.
DD's not seen other children since breaking up for Christmas on 16th December and is really starting to struggle but besides it's only being one other person we are to exercise with I know DD and her daughter would struggle to distance (8 and 9).

I don't think it would be wrong. I assume you are in England? In Wales you would actually be allowed to do this as the children are both under 11, which to me indicates the risk to anyone is low.

ChocOrange1 · 10/02/2021 15:38

I would do it OP. The risk to all of you from covid is tiny. the risk to your childs mental health is large.

Cloudsurfing · 10/02/2021 15:39

Just meet up and you walk with your friend and the kids walk together. That’s fine.

LadyCatStark · 10/02/2021 15:40

Technically yes, actually no! Only children have been completely forgotten by the government this whole time.

emmathedilemma · 10/02/2021 15:42

Do what everyone else seems to be doing and the 2 adults walk together and the 2 kids walk a few metres in front of them together. Not saying it's right but it's clearly what a lot of couples are doing!!
Kids under 12 don't count towards the "one other person" allowance in Scotland.

ifonly4 · 10/02/2021 15:45

As said, technically yes, but no. Exercise should be distanced, so I'd pick somewhere that both children can walk apart and it's easy for you to follow behind at a distance. If they were in school they'd listen to their teacher asking them to keep apart, so I'm sure they'll do the same for you. Alternatively could you and friend walk around park area and the girls do something like skipping or play frizbee or bat and ball (obviously sanitizing hands after) in the middle - that would cover the exercise thing.

Flyonawalk · 10/02/2021 15:58

I hope you do it and that your DD is lifted by being with her friend. This is unbelievably tough for children of her age Bear

canitbeme · 10/02/2021 17:00

Yes in England and myself and friend were only saying yesterday that it seems unfair that children in England can't meet up but they can elsewhere.

emmathedilemma that's good to know that others are allowing their children to meet up and walk in front. A walk or two a week would really help DD right now.
I know they would listen to the teacher and they would listen to us but think it will be hard for them to remain distanced when they haven't seen each other for so long and if they were in school they wouldn't be required to distance so think they will forget and keep walking closer to each other.
Park sounds good, we could walk and they could maybe go on their scooters which would help to keep some distance between them.

I couldn't care less if it's wrong. Peoples mental health is taking a battering , go for it

SnowyBranches · 10/02/2021 17:04

I have done this a few times, although mine is ten so slightly older. The two ten year olds, one of whom has a phone, walk around the park by themselves, and me and the other mum also walk around. If they were younger, I would be fine with just walking behind them.

OliveTree75 · 10/02/2021 17:55

My 8 year old built a snowman with his friend over the road today. He hasn't had anyone other than his 5yo brother to play with since december. He is absolutely beaming now! Go for it

SunshineNeededNow · 10/02/2021 18:07

I do it. And will be in half term.

GintyMcGinty · 10/02/2021 18:07

If you are in Scotland and Wales its perfectly fine to do this anyway.

SnowyTheCat · 10/02/2021 18:13

I took my 7yo dd out to the park and we collected her friend on the way last week. It did them both the world of good.
