Got a call Sunday evening that DD may have been in contact with a positive case. Told to keep her off school. They've been tested but no result. Said they'd ring back today. Heard nothing so rang them today. They've no records of us.... at all. They had no advice. Shall I see if they ring tomorrow or just keep isolating anyways? Don't know when she last had contact with them. Others in the class haven't heard anything either.

That's very odd - there's no reason track or trace would know anything about someone who had had a test but no result (is that what you meant? or did you mean your DD has had a test?)

I would be suspicious someone was playing tricks on you.

TheFerretsSleeping · 09/02/2021 19:51

The person has had a test but no result yet. The whole class got the call and school knows about it so doubt its a scam/trick? The number was a 0800 number that I tried to call back but dosent accept incoming calls.

Maybe they decided after all that she wasn't a contact?

Test and trace only starts following a positive result. You dont give your close contacts until then
Imagine how many tests there are a day they couldn't contact the contacts of everyone who takes a test.

T and T only phone after a positive test and when they've been provided with contact details don't they? Are you sure it wasn't some other body that phoned, maybe to do with school isolations

TheFerretsSleeping · 09/02/2021 19:56

Oh strange? So keep following isolating rules or dd is desperate to go sledging tomorrow

Haven't the school told you what to do?
dementedpixie · 09/02/2021 19:58

It will have been someone connected to the school that called. Test and trace only deal with positive cases. Is there someone at the school you can contact about it?

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 09/02/2021 19:59

If all the class have had a call I would speak to the school.
Although if there is a positive result in a class it would be school who send out the details about when to self isolate not an 0800 number. The school use whatever app/text/email they usually use and confirm when the self isolation is until. That's because they know who has been in school or near the person testing positive.
It's really odd the whole class got a call

TheFerretsSleeping · 09/02/2021 20:27

Ahh no we've had nothing from the school themselves apart from saying that I'll know more before them??

According to OFCOM, the T&T number is 0300 0135 000.

Howshouldibehave · 09/02/2021 22:09

Your DD has been identified as the close contact of someone who hasn’t actually tested positive?!

That sounds bizarre!

BrokenCircle · 09/02/2021 22:11

Yeah that’s weird. T&T wouldn’t call to say she was a contact of someone who hadn’t yet tested positive.

ChristmasCovid · 09/02/2021 23:44

T&T only call people who have tested positive or the contacts that have been named by people who have tested positive.
They certainly don’t call people who are waiting for a result or their contacts to say they ‘may’ have been a contact of a maybe positive case.
Why don’t you call the school tomorrow and see if anyone has tested positive or not.
Whoever called did they name your daughter? Really bizarre..

TheFerretsSleeping · 10/02/2021 15:31

Yeah positive test result. It wasn't track and trace that called but health protection team?? Whatever that is. School has confirmed the results. Dd now in isolation untill 15th

It's a bit odd that they told you they were T and T, do you think they were trying to scare you into isolating?
TheFerretsSleeping · 10/02/2021 19:24

Quiet possibly. Still haven't heard from test and trace so don't know if they are in place of that?

OP posts:
ExpulsoCorona · 10/02/2021 21:09

Is it a primary school or secondary school? If secondary school it's possible that the child had a positive lateral flow test and is waiting for results of a PCR test. Track and trace do follow up on lateral flow tests.

TheFerretsSleeping · 10/02/2021 21:49

Primary and just been told it was a teacher not a pupil

OP posts:
TheFerretsSleeping · 10/02/2021 21:49

We are in Scotland don't know if that makes a difference

OP posts:
ExpulsoCorona · 10/02/2021 21:51

Perhaps the teachers are doing the twice weekly lateral flow tests and then following up with the formal tests if they test positive.

BrokenCircle · 11/02/2021 15:58

Teachers no longer need the PCR test if a later flow test is positive.

ChristmasCovid · 11/02/2021 20:13

The Health Protection team have more authority than T&T.
In fact T&T escalate issues to the HPT including major outbreak, care homes etc.

WalkingOnStarshine · 11/02/2021 20:34

I read this the other day but I think I understand now. My relative is a teacher and she tested positive today with a lateral flow test. The school apparently didn't hang about working out all the close contacts so I expect people will have had a phone call to notify them. She had to also take a PCR test today to confirm which I guess then channels it through the T&T system.

TheFerretsSleeping · 11/02/2021 23:52

Ahh thanks guys. Another teacher has now tested positive so it could be they are trying to deal with an out break. Dd has no symtoms yet. Keeping a close eye just in case. she's allowed out on Monday.
