Yet our schools are shut, businesses closed, population locked down and going frankly nuts

Yet you can still fly into Britain with no quarantine in place

This is unbelievable, why are we even bothering?

Sorry, yes. I should have mentioned India as an exception.

Which countries in Africa?
I did read about Tanzania yesterday, but couldnt work out whether that was because they seem to be doing little if anything at all, about covid.

There do seem to be exceptions. Though I think my post did use the words "in general".

@Dongdingdong

I wonder how many of the posters calling for border closures slammed Trump for closing the US borders almost a year ago?

Also, I distinctly remember posts on MN about 11 months ago saying it was too late to shut the borders, the horse had bolted. Those posters look rather silly now.

But AFAIK President Trump never completely closed the US Borders..

If you look at the various Presidential Proclamations issued last year with regard to Covid you'll see that whilst Section 1 of them usually contains a list of those who are banned (e.g. nationals of China, nationals of the EU) there then usually follows section 2 which often starts with:

" Scope of Suspension and Limitation on Entry.
(a) Section 1 of this proclamation shall not apply to:"

There then usually follows a long list of those still allowed entry, such as US Citizens, Spouse of a US Citizen, various specialist visa holders for those in essential lines of work such as transport and logistics, US military., I've even seen even..."any alien whose entry would be in the national interest, "..possibly the caveat used to allow Mr Farage to attend the odd Trump rally ConfusedGrin

In short the US borders have never been completely closed AFAIK and they have most certainly allowed limited entry, pretty much in the same way as the UK has done.

Considering most Track & Trace workers spend large parts of their day doing nothing they could at least spend the day ringing up those who are supposed to be home to check.

Well they do do a lot of ringing and then send snotty letters to 89 year olds who had their positive result whilst lying in a hospital bed.
