How much longer are we meant to do this?

I have so many friends who are at the end of their tether. Some suicidal, many almost.
I attend a zoom support group for my mental health and emotional well being as I have BPD and ASD. The last few weeks have been horrendous, every person is at the lowest they’ve been since the beginning of all this.
The amount of posts I’ve read on various Facebook groups of people saying they don’t want to get up in the morning anymore, they just stay in bed. Surely this isn’t doing anyone any good physically or mentally?
Surely this will put most in a weaker position if they were to catch covid?

How much more are we all suppose to take of this? With no end in sight?

OP posts:

oops that was supposed to quote @ElliFAntspoo

pommedeterre · 09/02/2021 11:06

@bumbleymummy

Of course we needed to protect the NHS mainly it couldn’t cope because it was underfunded for years.

^This. We are all paying for this now. The NHS has been under pressure for years. Every winter they’ve been stretched to breaking point. It’s taken a pandemic and several months worth of restrictions for people to finally sit up and take notice.

YES. It wasn't in a place to cope with a pandemic at all. Same with schools. They can't make crowded, undersized classrooms and out of control teacher to pupil ratios covid secure.

Our infrastructure was f**ked. That's why our death toll is so high.

The youngsters are paying for previous generations mistakes and it makes me want to weep.

LetItGoGo · 09/02/2021 11:19

Greenland's post: the points about activity and health..yes!
I am in Scotland and generally despair of public health.

We're deep into sunk-cost territory and Boris and co must be shitting themselves. Look at Boris. What are his instincts for? Self-aggrandisement and the acquisition of power, in the large sense. He also likes down and dirty politicking. He keeps saying he's a libertarian but nothing about his behaviour as Mayor of London suggests that. Sure, he takes a hell of a lot of liberties in his private life. But as a politician he seems to me quite authoritarian. The first thing he did as Mayor of London was ban alcohol on public transport. He also appointed himself as chair of the Met Police. Didn't he even want to ban Irish people in London from celebrating St Patrick's Day?

So although I don't think the government had a malign plan at the beginning to lock us all up in our homes indefinitely (at the beginning they repeatedly said they were surprised by the compliance), they now have an inducement to string everything out as long as possible. After all, it's only when furlough finally ends and things are meant to be reopening that the scale of the long-term economic damage (all the empty store fronts, all the people on benefits) will become clear. So although I'm sure that in one sense they want this to come to an end, like everyone else, it coming to an end will mean facing scrutiny and an inquiry into their (I think we can all agree) fucking woeful mismanagement, incompetence, and corruption over the last year.

the80sweregreat · 09/02/2021 11:49

People have says that pubs won't open till August! Or just open but not selling alcohol. So many different rumors.
So sad for the business owners.

the80sweregreat · 09/02/2021 11:50

Said not says! Phone typo

I think this is complete and utter bollocks.

myfriendsgivebadadvice · 09/02/2021 14:17

If face coverings actually worked we would not have seen a third lockdown and second wave worst than the first.

Is it possible for you to understand that they work a bit but other measures are also necessary? Like your knickers work a bit but then you also put trousers on?

myfriendsgivebadadvice · 09/02/2021 14:20

None of this has been worth it ,- how Is it if with the measures put in place still leave us with a horrendous death toll of over 100k.

We did everything too slowly and we didn't do anything very well. But if you would like to try it and see, you will find that the death toll could be much, much higher without these measures that weren't with bothering with. You will also lose access to many other services in the process and the economy will not be helped but at least no one will be doing anything draconian.

myfriendsgivebadadvice · 09/02/2021 14:22

Umm.. no, I want the scientists to keep doing their jobs and I want the media to stop reporting on every minor finding when there is not enough data to confirm anything.

I expect you would be the first to complain if the government sprang a big decision on us based on data they didn't have confirmed until yesterday but had been sitting on in some form for the last fortnight. because if you'd known you wouldn't have booked a summer holiday

Pompous, incoherent and hard of thinking post from you. Your ability to use the word outwith, lack of interest in data and conflation of this with dissatisfaction with public policy duly noted though. I don't think your skill set is half as transferrable as you think, the irony being that you don't think a physicist (which you can't spell) could do the job but you, with armed with a legal background and righteous indignation that you can't buy a pint, can.

Suzi888 · 09/02/2021 14:31

I feel you OP. It does feel like we’re aiming for zero covid and the little fecker keeps mutating and changing the goal posts.
I really feel for people who are suffering with their mental health.

“Creamteaincornwall
Do those saying there’s an end in sight think that there will be some normality by Easter?
If you are concerned about the responses you may get, and how you feel about the future, you maybe shouldn't be asking questions like this.” - responses like this are not helpful. Confused

"Duly noted".

My goodness. Perhaps I will be ostracised from some imaginary public policy related position.

Would you care to indulge us in any content within your next abusive rant, or will it simply consist of personal insults once more?

I'm a tea-totaller by the way.

snowydaysandholidays · 09/02/2021 15:24

We are doing okay. I feel that the restrictions will start to be eased soon, perhaps in a few weeks so feeling quite positive now.

myfriendsgivebadadvice · 09/02/2021 16:28

Gosh you are awfully keen to imagine people are being abusive to you.

I can't see you being elected to a public position TBH

I think these posts are too personal and too aggressive. I get that tempers are fraying but this is really not healthy.

Not at all myfriendsgivemebadadvice". Me and my friend, whom I message on and off all day, have been using the phrase duly noted* so much that we now can't stop. You've had us in stitches!
DarlingCoffee · 09/02/2021 18:30

Do we think they might ease restrictions in time for half term, asking hopefully as I scratch my head wondering what the heck we will do for the week!!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 09/02/2021 18:43

Cavemum posted this on the vaccination thread. I hope the poster doesn't mind bit I thought people here may wish to see this.

How much longer are we meant to do this?
Kazzyhoward · 09/02/2021 19:09

If face coverings actually worked we would not have seen a third lockdown and second wave worst than the first.

How do you know the rates of infection wouldn't have been even higher, necessitating an earlier and longer lockdown, without face coverings?

Anyway, the later lockdowns have been a lot weaker than the first one, so you're not comparing like for like anyway.

No one ever said that face coverings would have such a massive effect that they'd avoid further lockdowns or waves.

EberhardtSmallcock · 09/02/2021 19:14

Anyway, the later lockdowns have been a lot weaker than the first one

Not in my wrecked universe, they haven't.

Don't assume it's the same for everyone. Each subsequent lockdown makes life even worse for me.

the80sweregreat · 09/02/2021 20:50

Hospitals are mixing covid patients with non covid patients I've heard today ( friends relative is in for non covid reasons) yet I can't walk around a shop for 20 minutes with a member of my own family! When you hear this type of thing happening, even I begin to wonder why anyone is bothering and I have followed all the rules up to now. It makes me mad that this can happen and how some things are being hushed up I'm sure of it.

LetItGoGo · 09/02/2021 21:00

theeightiesweregreat: absolutely. Most cases I'm aware irl are related to hospital transmission or living with hospital workers.

the80sweregreat · 09/02/2021 21:02

I'm not knocking the NHS at all , but when you hear that people are not being separated in hospital for days / weeks / months at a time it makes me wonder what is going on here? They can't put covid patients in one place ? Why not?
It seems crazy to me.

Moonstone1234 · 09/02/2021 21:11

DF caught Covid in hospital. PP are right. If hospitals cannot separate Covid/non Covid people what is the point?
