That's not going to work. Another ridiculous idea. What about all those people that moved their cancelled holidays for 2020 by a year. Summer holidays may go ahead if vaccine roll out happens and who is going to cancel and lose their money - I'm not. Will be lots of absent children.

"Your all in the wrong job with that resentful attitude."

Yes, it would appear we are. But you're kind of stuck with needing us.

Nellodee · 07/02/2021 20:42

I spent two hours this Saturday, as I do every Saturday, putting on a live revision session for my year 13s for free.

But yup, in the wrong job.

palacegirl77 · 07/02/2021 20:43

@sherrystrull

Right. When the curriculum was suspended and the expectations weren't clear.

Have you had better provision since September? And in particular since January?

Honestly sounds like you're struggling a lot. I would contact the school and send them in, even for a couple of days a week.

I cant praise the teachers highly enough for what we have had since Jan, its miles better. My secondary girl can sort all hers out herself so I can focus on the younger one, but she just doesnt want to do certain aspects - like reading. Its fine and we can manage, I just take umbridge with comments and laughing at me for saying we are doing this to help teachers...we genuinely are and those children that have frontline parents. But the attitude makes me think why are we bothering?
palacegirl77 · 07/02/2021 20:44

@CallmeAngelina

"but we havent to make them safer for teachers and those kids with frontline parents. Why do we bother?" It's nothing to DO with making it safer for teachers. Do you think for one moment that's why the government closed schools? They/no one could give a shit about school staff's safety. They were closed due for a public health intervention, and THAT is why numbers need to be kept low, even now. Please don't try to guilt trip teachers on this one. We are as much victims in this as everyone else.
wow. So in that case it makes no difference to a teacher to have 10 kids in or 30 kids? I really thought we were helping reduce the risk to teaching staff and others. More fool me then I guess.
Remmy123 · 07/02/2021 20:46

@Nellodee well done 👏 Its not a competition!!

Loads of people do over time in lots of jobs - no need to tell the world!!

DBML · 07/02/2021 20:47

@Remmy123

You’re right! I can’t be made to cancel my holiday. People can tell me I should, for the greater good, and my vocation, and so I look like a nice teacher on the internet. But you’re right, I can just say ‘fuck off’.

palacegirl77 · 07/02/2021 20:47

@Awalkintime

palacegirl77 You do know teachers are also parents who are home schooling their own kids and juggling their work alongside educating their own kids.

They are also working into the night and weekends to catch up. My colleague has her children in her classroom as she doesn't have a place despite her and her husband being key workers and she is teaching to her class in school, her class of home learners and her two kids of her own.

Everyone is in the same boat. It is a difficult situation for everyone.

Totally, although they could have their children in as keyworkers kids couldnt they? I know its rubbish for everyone. But to be laughed at when we are trying to do our bit is pretty crap to be honest.
MrsHamlet · 07/02/2021 20:47

I would absolutely offer extra hours or extra days if I thought it was worth it. But years of experience tells me that the kids you need won't come, the kids who really want to come don't need to, and the resentful ones who are forced to come make it shit for everyone.
I'm that teacher who won't do after school or weekend revision (which actually my school scrapped several years ago) because it's not a silver bullet. Come to my lessons, pay attention, work hard and you don't need an hour a week after school because we've got it.
I do offer sessions at lunchtime where I judge they're needed but it can't be a blanket extra session. It doesn't work.
I'm also entitled to a life outside of work.

pooiepooie25 · 07/02/2021 20:49

@Aab1234

Many employers have asked employees to go above and beyond over the past 12 months for no additional compensation. Why should teachers be exempt?
Oh ffs - we aren't exempt because do you know what? Teachers go over and above ALL the bloody time. Every day, every year and even more so at the moment. So fuck off with your goady shit.
ChloeDecker · 07/02/2021 20:49

Like those nurses working all hours, doctors working weekends etc, for you its the hours you get paid for and nothing more?

Those nurses and doctors are not doing it for free. They get overtime. Teachers do not get overtime.

Remmy123 · 07/02/2021 20:50

It's not going to happen anyway - pointless eveb getting worked up about it

Nothing wrong with this point if view at all. If this pandemic has taught us anything its how much teachers are appreciated and if an experienced teacher tell me educationally it wouldnt be worth it thats a much better reaction than "Im not contracted, Im not doing it" if that makes sense.
sherrystrull · 07/02/2021 20:50

@palacegirl77

My dc'a nursery is closed. Many of my colleagues cannot send their children in as their isnt space.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/02/2021 20:50

Loads of people do over time in lots of jobs - no need to tell the world!!

I wonder if those 'loads of people' constantly get told by the media and the public in general that they are lazy, workshy, scared, useless and so on?

CallmeAngelina · 07/02/2021 20:51

"If this pandemic has taught us anything its how much teachers are appreciated"

Are you having a laugh?

Remmy123 · 07/02/2021 20:51

@pooiepooie25 please tell me you are not a teacher? You sound vile.

Remmy123 · 07/02/2021 20:52

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot I've not personally read that in the media.

Awalkintime · 07/02/2021 20:53

palacegirl77
There is no room for them even though he is frontline. She has no childcare so they have to come into school.

Yeah we know that feeling of being laughed at when we're trying to do our bit also being put down too.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/02/2021 20:53

if an experienced teacher tell me educationally it wouldnt be worth it

It really isn't. Children in primary schools are often 'gone' by 2pm. We teach English and maths in the mornings for a reason. We finish at 3.15 in normal times, and the time from 2.30 - 3.15 is often quite hellish for behaviour, let alone for learning.

Problem we have here is that the gov doesn't ask teachers - they might ask academy CEOs who they know to be on the Tory's side, but they don't care either.

TheMoth · 07/02/2021 20:53

Lots of people do overtime when necessary or get paid for it. They have peaks and troughs. They don't do it every. Fucking. Day. And every weekend. And then get told they're lying about it.

CallmeAngelina · 07/02/2021 20:54
@pooiepooie25 please tell me you are not a teacher? You sound vile.
Why vile? How on earth should that remark mean she can't be a damn good teacher? And one who knows how to establish her boundaries?

Pixxie7 · 07/02/2021 20:54

It seems like the government can’t win, I admit they have made a lot of mistakes but the media is full of the psychological damage and concerns about children being disadvantaged because of COVID but as soon as they put any suggestions they are shot down in flames.

palacegirl77 · 07/02/2021 20:54

@CallmeAngelina

"If this pandemic has taught us anything its how much teachers are appreciated"

Are you having a laugh?

When I say US I mean my partner and myself. Because trying to teach my daughter anything is bloody impossible. So no Im not having a laugh, which is why I would support my child being given any extra time in school with a teacher she is offered,
DBML · 07/02/2021 20:54

Is this really a nurses overtime? If so, good! they deserve it and more.
Offer me double time and I’ll consider the holidays.

Extending school term at end of July
MrsHamlet · 07/02/2021 20:54

And they'll ask CEOs who probably haven't taught in the last decade.... if ever!
