Asking for a friend ....

Friend has a son who is a vulnerable adult. Doesn’t live with her. He had a visit from a support worker on Monday who spent time in sons flat and took him shopping, so about 20 minutes each way in the car.

Friend saw her son on Wednesday, spent a couple of hours in his flat and also took him shopping in her car. She had her Covid jab yesterday and had quite a strong reaction to it.

Support worker has now tested positive today. She is asking me for advice ..... I think both she and her son need to self isolate and get tested. Have I read that correctly? WWYD? Thanks all.

Her son needs to self isolate as a contact, your friend doesn't. Neither need to be tested unless they show symptoms.

I agree with @Todaythiscouldbe, no one needs to test but the son needs to isolate.

Obviously this changes if either of them display symptoms.

Your friend needs to look at her vaccination symptoms objectively; if they were common ones (fever, joint pains, headache) then it’s more than likely attributable to the vaccine and it’s unlikely she would be displaying symptoms of a covid infection so quickly and her son hadn’t displayed any.

If her son develops flu-like symptoms or she hers don’t improve then they should consider testing.

Her son only needs to isolate if he had contact with the support worker in the 48hrs before the worker had symptoms. (Test and trace will notify if necessary.) She does not need to isolate.

How capable is her son to cope if isolated? I assume they won't send support workers in so she may need to isolate with him anyway.
