ALL HAIL THE VACCINE PEOPLE !!

Just had my vaccination at a hub.

It was brilliantly organised, everyone was very pleasant and efficient.

I am humbled. From the development of the vaccine, through its roll-out and delivery, many, many people have worked so hard and I am profoundly grateful.

If I hear anyone moaning and carping, I might just explode!

There was a terrible lack of social distancing at Aunties vaccination centre.

Literally none.

From the bloke who told you to wind down your window so he could stick his head in your car to say "park over there" to the person who squirted hand sanitizer on your hands personally, to the volunteers huddled in groups chatting and always far too close to the vulnerable there to be jabbed.

One bloke would have gone straight from handling his phone to trying to push her wheelchair if I hadn't got in his way bodily.

I'm very grateful for her vaccine, but if she gets covid flu or even a bloody cold I shall know exactly where she caught it.

I think a few people are over thinking the significance of the sticker. It's a bit of fun/light relief!

That's my entire point though. It's a bit of fun which to me makes the whole situation into a joke when actually it's fucking serious. Maybe it's one thing I'm picking up on but it just seems utterly ridiculous
Nacreous · 06/02/2021 08:05

I really appreciate a thread with positive stories like this.

I'm working behind the scenes trying to make sure vaccines get delivered to the right places and that people have the right amount for their population. It's been taking 60-70 hours a week of really high stress work and I am just so grateful to hear about people who are benefitting from that.

Cornettoninja · 06/02/2021 08:09

@RosesAndLemonade, vaccinations are the best news many people have had all year, it’s a fantastic achievement and finally news that doesn’t provoke concern, stress or fear (mostly).

Stickers don’t mean anything, they don’t take anything away from the value of the vaccination programme and allow people a brief moment of fun in a rare situation that’s appropriate for a bit of happiness regarding this pandemic.

Basically, let people enjoy things, especially when there are literally no consequences from it. If you don’t want to take part or think it’s immature that’s fine, but there’s no need to piss on other peoples enjoyment of a small token.

You have your opinion I'll have mine. Free speech and all

orangejuicer · 06/02/2021 08:12

I see what you mean but I don't think most people will take it like that. Yes it's serious, 100k people have died. We know. I will still appreciate a sticker if I get one after my vaccination (whenever that is) and will wear it with pride.

Cornettoninja · 06/02/2021 08:13

Absolutely, and mine is it’s ridiculous to get your knickers in a twist over stickers by somehow thinking it takes something away from the scientific importance and achievement. It doesn’t.

Oly4 · 06/02/2021 08:15

I can’t wait!! Hurrah for vaccines, vaccinators and the NHS!

To you. To me, when 100k have died and there's been a success so far, rollout of probably one of the biggest scientific achievements to date, giving stickers to adults is a making a fucking joke

I completely agree

I don’t know why some people have to be such fun sponges all the time. Don’t take a sticker if you don’t want one. Poster above isn’t even willing to get it so I suppose that says it all really.

Brunt0n · 06/02/2021 08:23

@RosesAndLemonade

Well fair enough if people want stickers take them. To me it just infantilises the whole thing and makes it, to me, less of a big deal than it actually is. Because to me the vaccines ARE a massive deal - I can't have one and don't want one (for many real, actual reasons - I'm not anti vax - my kids are vaccinated and I've paid for extra ones that aren't on the usual nhs kids vaccine schedule) but I think that the fact that we have already vaccinated millions is incredible

But to me, grown adults getting stickers - to be honest it turns it into a bit of a farce / joke situation to me when it's actually a massive turning point.

I think if anyone sounds childish here, it’s you
ClarasZoo · 06/02/2021 08:23

I am volunteering and it’s done wonders for my mental health because I see hundreds of people each shift and it’s almost like a social situation where there is a common purpose. My volunteer job is not trained or important, as I am totally replaceable, but it makes me feel so good thinking the people that pass through are better protected..

TheRuleofStix · 06/02/2021 08:24

This is such a lovely thread (with the few exceptions who insist on being pofaced Hmm). I’m some months from a vaccine but am delighted by all those getting it - and bring on the stickers! We’ve had precious little to smile about for so long, if it makes people smile it’s a good thing! No one getting the vaccine is dumb enough to think a sticker is reducing the significance of the moment Grin.

cheekaa · 06/02/2021 08:24

I got my first dose two weeks ago. The day before I was talking to a friend on the phone and mentioned to him that I was having my vaccine the next day. He wished me Happy Vaccine Day and added I would send you a e-card but Jacquie Lawson does not do a card for this. YET!!

I want to thank all the vaccinators/ helpers etc who are doing a great job.

ClarasZoo · 06/02/2021 08:25

We don’t hand out stickers but we do have them. One chap asked for one and as soon as others saw he had one they all asked for one too😂

RosesAndLemonade · 06/02/2021 08:29

I wonder why people have such a problem with people having an opinion different to theirs.

TheRuleofStix · 06/02/2021 08:33

No one has a problem with you having a different opinion but read the bloody room. You’ve made your point, most people don’t agree, you don’t have to keep going on about it.

I’m an atheist but I wouldn’t walk into a church on a Sunday morning and bang on about the toxic nature of religion.

Let people be happy and have fun - what ha are they doing??

TheRuleofStix · 06/02/2021 08:33

Option a) internet forum in the uk = allowed to say what you want. Option b) Communism = not allowed to say what you want

Fortunately for all of us we live in option A. Therefore. I can say what I want no matter what the "room" suggests. And whether you think it should or not, to me, belittling such an absolutely colossal and life changing achievement for everyone, isn't something I like

And if you don't like what I'm writing , well, I'm not forcing you to read or reply.

TheRuleofStix · 06/02/2021 08:38

Grin communism????

Grin

No one is forcing you to read their opinions either. Job done.

Hmm
Brunt0n · 06/02/2021 08:38

Bet @RosesAndLemonade is fun at parties eh?

Actually probably think parties are not something grown adults can enjoy 🤣

Definately not, I hate them I'm really antisocial :)

My DM had hers last weekend and PIL are both due theirs today. My DM sent me a picture of herself with her sticker a big smile and a thumbs up! Such a relief that it's done!

This thread has made me want to request a page of stickers and stick them all over my face whilst skipping back to the car when it's finally my turn (not for a while yet!)
