Scotland vaccine rollout

I’m just wondering what Scots think about how the vaccine rollout is going?

From a personal point of view it is going fine as all the over 80’s and CEV I know have received the first dose of vaccine.

No doubt there must have been some problems for Scotland to be in 4th place behind the other nations. With this obsession about who is best somewhere has to be in last place. I don’t see it as a race. Until every eligible person has received the two doses of the vaccine then nobody has won.

If I was in charge I would have rolled it out differently in the islands. Say take a week and vaccinate everybody on Barra in one go rather than have the vaccination team make several trips over many weeks to do each cohort in turn. Logistically I think this would be quicker.

Like Belindabelle I also think its going fine. Scotland concentrated on really covering Care Homes first and got a huge uptake, with 98% of older people in care homes having had the vaccine. All the over 80s I know have had their vaccines, and a good proportion of over 70s. People in their sixties are getting their invitations. Of course there is a lot of focus on the percentage who haven't had it yet, but this is a huge undertaking and I'm happy to cut them some slack.

Despite all of the noise about how much quicker its going in other countries, Scotland vaccinated 8,300 people per 100,000 yesterday and England did 6,770. Some days England will do more, some days Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland will.

Shambles
Gran and great gran 78 and 103 in Glasgow still waiting. They would have been done by now in England.

Very sorry to hear that @xmouse. Have you been given any explanation for this?

The roll out has been fantastic in my area. A few teething problems but that is to be expected. We have never done this before. It is a huge undertaking for the NHS and it being done whilst providing all its other services... in the middle of winter!
