App says to self isolate for only 3 days??

So we woke this morning to a message on my husbands phone from the app and it says to isolate for only 3 days?

Have I missed something as I thought isolation was for 10 days or is 3 days now the norm?

The contact must have been seven days ago, can you recall where you were?

LadyWhistledownthe1st · 05/02/2021 07:06

10 days from the day of contact. So yes, must’ve been 7 days ago

Ah OK so the contact wad 7 days ago and they have obviously only just uploaded a positive test?

It does seem a little redundant to now isolate for the next 3 day when DH has been at work most days since then and doing the shopping etc so he could have been unknowingly spreading it for a week.

He was most likely at work 7 days ago although he's not heard from anyone at work whose tested positive. I can't remember if he also did a food shop or anything else. All the days seem to merge together at the moment.

You should isolate, we all have to do what we can.

JoeJames · 05/02/2021 07:38

I had the same notification a few weeks ago and it needed a day and half of self isolation, it seemed a bit pointless but you never know so I did do it.

MajesticWhine · 05/02/2021 07:46

It's not redundant because he could be infectious. Just because he hasn't isolated for all the days doesn't mean he shouldn't isolate now.

A day and a half is impressive. Grin

In all fairness I never said we were not going to isolate but that still doesn't stop me thinking it's a little horse door bolted.

There are a number of reasons you might get a shorter isolation, I would guess that the person who tested positive may have had an unreadable sample and had to do it again or had a home test delivered. I think that there are some people who take a day or two to decide to test as well so if they’ve entered their first day of symptoms (not necessarily the date of the test itself) you could end up with a short isolation notification.

It’s not a perfect system by any means but if you consider that people are infectious before they show symptoms it’s still going to break a proportion of infection chains.

I got notified the other week to isolate. It ended 3 days before I got the text! The timings were all wrong anyway. I saw the person a week before their symptoms not the 2 day window. Hence the really late notification.

My DH had a text from the app a few weeks back just after10pm, telling him to isolate until midnight Grin

That's brilliant. 🤣🤣 I hope he didn't struggle too much with being stuck at home isolating, it must have really dragged.

Oh wow I bet he was bored out of his mind and had forgotten what the outside world looked like when he finally out again. Grin

It ended 3 days before I got the text!

That's pretty impressive!

Small update we've just sat and worked it out and 7 days ago he went for his covid jab... The irony is not lost on him.

I got one yesterday for 4 days! I thought that was short but some of these are priceless!
Only place we've been is the supermarket. Anyone know how long you need to be close to someone? Surely it's a matter of seconds in a supermarket? Similar with the jab?

I have a fuzzy head today and I'm hoping it's the app messing with my mind.

I also got a notification to isolate 5 says after I got my jab, from the vaccination data.

I deleted the app. I know, it's definitely a hanging offence. And not because I'm protected yet by the jab as I know I'm not, just that I distanced, wore masks and didn't say a word to anyone except the nurse who I was with for 4 mins max.

And I've had sustained contact with covid before and didn't catch it then.

I'll go sit on the naughty step now.

ILookAtTheFloor · 06/02/2021 13:10

*vaccination centre not data haha.

TalbotAMan · 06/02/2021 13:49

I got one telling me to isolate for 6 days. On the day in question I'd been to work, where I was working in a room largely on my own but with other people popping in and out, socially distanced, every hour or so, for no more than 10 minutes at a time. I was, though, above a large open-plan office on the floor below. I also ran round the supermarket on the way home.

My best guess is that the phone made contact with someone in the open-plan office who was never in the same room as me. After 6 days avoiding the family and sleeping in the spare bedroom, and still waiting to see whether my employer will stump up full sick pay, I just might have turned the thing off. . .

HidingInTheLight · 06/02/2021 15:50

When I was asked to self isolate (not by the app) I looked it up online According to gov.uk being within one metre of someone for a minute counts as a contact. www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-for-contacts-of-people-with-possible-or-confirmed-coronavirus-covid-19-infection-who-do-not-live-with-the-person/guidance-for-contacts-of-people-with-possible-or-confirmed-coronavirus-covid-19-infection-who-do-not-live-with-the-person

annlee3817 · 06/02/2021 18:09

My parents got a shorter isolation period, they were last in contact with me last Saturday, I didn't have symptoms until the Sunday and not any of the three listed, so didn't get tested until the Tuesday, positive on Wednesday, so I logged their details on track and trace that day and they were told ten days from the Saturday, so only had to do seven days when they found out.

annlee3817 · 06/02/2021 18:11

This is from the track and trace site if that helps, from when I filled it in

App says to self isolate for only 3 days??
peak2021 · 06/02/2021 18:21

But it's a World Class Track and Trace system!!!!

Cookerhood · 06/02/2021 18:25

Track & trace is the post office system maybe that's where it's all going wrong Grin
