Easter holidays in the UK

I know no one has a crystal ball but I'd welcome thoughts - do you think we will be allowed to go away on holiday in the UK at Easter?

Not Easter, no. Probably in the summer.

Newgirls · 04/02/2021 13:17

I’ve booked but it’s completely refundable. I think some areas will be keen for tourism so we shall see.

Lissy23 · 04/02/2021 13:18

I just saw an article on Facebook about Wales possibly opening up to tourists at Easter, but don’t quote me on it.
I think possibly we’ll be able to go away with our household or bubble by then, yes.

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 04/02/2021 13:27

Going away with household will do me, so desperate to escape these 4 walls.

I suppose even if we aren't allowed to stay overnight away then we will be able to go a bit further afield for daytrips - do you think?

I doubt it, its going to depend on schools being back. They won't open tourist areas up until schools are open

But the plan is to get schools back from 8th March, so gives 4 weeks from then til Easter...

And at the moment, that plan is on track because the vaccinations are on track? Please?!

Booked but refundable too. If there's a chance I want to take it!

Lockdownbear · 04/02/2021 14:03

Is it all the school years on 8th March in England?

Scotland are getting infants back 22nd Feb. I was thinking it was only some years in England too.

Also neither date is set in stone.

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 04/02/2021 14:13

@Lockdownbear

They've not commented on which years it will be (but equally have not said that it will be limited to only some years).

I appreciate neither date is set in stone, and I don't trust Boris to stick to it, but, like I say there is a 4 week cushion between what he's hoping to do and the Easter holidays so I'm hoping all children will be back by Easter. Maybe I'm being optimistic.

I don't think we'll be back until after Easter holidays and even then possibly staggered...the new variants spreading may be driving caution...would love to be wrong

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 04/02/2021 14:26

They'll need surveillance on VOC.

If people are away I should think the recommendation will be to stay in bubbles and no mixing with locals unless there are strong social distancing protocols in place.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/02/2021 14:28

We have Butlins booked for Easter and I can't see us going.

Lollipop1234 · 04/02/2021 14:28

I think schools and other things reopening will depend a lot on the numbers. Although community transmission is reducing, the death rate and hospitalisation rate is still pretty high.

I really want to get the kids back to school as a priority, and I can’t see anything reopening until that happens. To me that should be the first aim. I want to be able to do more things too, but not at the expense of school being closed again if things are opened up too early.

But then historically, Boris seems to have focussed on opening up more things around school holidays and letting people travel more, so you never know! I’d be frustrated if he did this and we had to lockdown again though as it would imply that education is a low priority.

Hoppinggreen · 04/02/2021 14:30

If we are allowed to go we will probably try and book a seaside cottage somewhere, just the 4 of us and the dog

Rockbird · 04/02/2021 14:32

I've got a holiday in Cornwall booked for Easter. It's been changed three times now, I'd quite like to go this time! Will just have to wait and see.

Zogstart · 04/02/2021 14:39

I’m cautiously optimistic. Lots will be vaccinated by then and the hospitality sector could do with the Easter weekend income. I’m hoping to get away, just with my family household but it’s all refundable if it gets cancelled.

Lockdownbear · 04/02/2021 14:41

If the schools are fully open early March there's a good chance for Easter even if it's like October last year, Holiday Parks were open but not restaurants or bars.

I think that's what they'll be aiming for in England.
Scotland are likely to play silly and keep travel restricted even from within the UK.

purpleboy · 04/02/2021 14:46

We're booked for Easter too, rearranged from last year. I hope we go but I read an article today that said bars and restaurants possibly opening from 4th April, so after Easter wkend, not sure if that will have an impact on holiday parks opening their catering facilities?

peak2021 · 04/02/2021 14:56

I'm not sure given the rise in cases post Christmas and mixing. Not all of the 9 priority groups may have been vaccinated by then.

I can't see pubs and restaurants open as normal by then, or even all shops. I would not book anything that could not be cancelled for free.

PicsInRed · 04/02/2021 14:56

Yesterday Matt Hancock implored Bristolians to eat the weevilly leavings from the back of the pantry before daring venture outside to a supermarket. So Easter seems optimistic for an official opening up.

Summer though - we'll be open because either "they" will let us, or because we will take it.
