How long until 50s are vaccinated?

How long until do you think it will take for 50s age group to be vaccinated? I know you can’t be sure, but we are already on 65s in our area. From the news it seems like once 50s are vaccinated things will start opening up again.

I've had it (51), but then I work in care.

Sparklingbrook · 04/02/2021 12:22

The you put 50 into the online vaccine calculator it says 1-17th of May for first dose.

superfuckinglue · 04/02/2021 12:22

Don;t know, how do you find out what group your area is up to? I cannot find anything online and my GP website hasnt been updated since last March

Sparklingbrook · 04/02/2021 12:26

They are calling the over 70s at the moment here (Worcestershire).

doireallyneedaname · 04/02/2021 12:41

I’m 32 and the calculator says May-July

Oaktree55 · 04/02/2021 12:44

They think if supply holds up Groups 5-9 first dose end March. Remember as they move down groups people become more mobile etc however the second doses of those vax in January will be due which will slow. Don’t think end March/beginning of April is totally unrealistic though as long as there’s enough vaccine.

CoffeeandCroissant · 04/02/2021 12:49

Group 6 is very large (over 7 million people) so will take some time. 50's are groups 8 to 9 so on current projections (see attached) probably late March to early April but could be early May until all of group 9 is done if there are any slowdowns due to supply or other issues.

We got an email from nhs via next door.com saying that people in our area over 70 can get it (and then 65+).

Also, have heard through others that in their areas people in their 60s are being asked in to vaccinate.

our GP practice posted earlier that they're now doing 75+ at the practice and letters are going out to 65-75 for jabs at the mass vaccination centres. We're one of the slowest roll out in the country though!

Fairystory · 04/02/2021 13:04

It varies a lot round the country so it will depend where you live. The north east has vaccinated the most people and London the least in England.

FuzzyPuffling · 04/02/2021 13:08

Still doing groups 3 and 4 here.

It really seems to vary depending on which area you're in (and the number of mass vac centres you can access).

This morning on the BBC they were saying that getting Group 9 done by May was optimistic. It will have to be done in conjunction with the second doses for all the higher groups and this concerns me - I've not really seen any plan as to how this will be managed.

Crumpetycrump · 04/02/2021 17:48

I think Chris Whitby is being misquoted. He was asked about vaccinating (first dose) all adults by the end of May and (second dose) by August - not groups 5 - 9. Everyone over 50 should be done by the spring.

I'm 30, but in group 6 and I have been told the next month

Char2015 · 04/02/2021 20:41

As someone said above, the fact that millions will be requiring second doses from around March onwards will indeed speed the process down. That's not to say that significant numbers from the next priority groups won't be vaccinated - it just means these groups will have a slightly slower rollout than the first few groups. I do expect though more vaccination hubs to open up as more people need vaccinating and potentially higher numbers of doses of vaccine to be delivered.

HettieMillia · 04/02/2021 20:42

May.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 04/02/2021 20:45

We're still Group 1 in our area.

Crumpetycrump · 04/02/2021 22:40

Although second doses will beef to start in March, these mainly related to December when vaccines given were much lower. It’s only really April when second doses will ramp up, so I imagine the government are hoping to get the over 50s done in March ....
