10 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

Fantastic! Any bets on when we’ll hit the magic number? I’m going to guess that Thursday’s briefing (so vaccinations up to Wednesday) will get us there.

I’m going to guess Thursday - so we’ll hit the target on Thurs, but the 13.9 million plus figure will appear on the government website on Friday Smile

CoffeeandCroissant · 07/02/2021 16:27

17.99% of the UK population has received at least one dose of the vaccine

England: 18.28%
Wales: 18.70%
Scotland: 15.36%
NI: 15.59%

PuzzledObserver · 07/02/2021 16:28

Here’s another thought for you. 13 million is roughly 25% of the adult population, isn’t it? Tuesday if we’re lucky, Wednesday if we’re not.

CoffeeandCroissant · 07/02/2021 16:31

But the target isn't 13.9 million, it's everyone in groups 1 to 4. Which may be 13.9 million, but hitting that number most likely means some of those will be people in other groups (5 or 6) due to some areas being ahead of others and having different population distributions etc. So hitting 13.9 million doesn't necessarily mean that that target has been met iyswim?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 07/02/2021 16:32

My nearest vaccination hub have announced they have nearly finished jabs for cohort 1 to 5. Just chasing up people that never replied to invitations to make sure that don't what it.

So now they have said anyone from surrounding areas in groups 1 to 5. Can email them with name, date of birth, phone number and GP practice details. They will then call up and book an appointment.

Sounds a bit time consuming to me but I think they have a lot of volunteers sorting this.

My friend whole is shielding has been interviewing volunteers over the phone since December. Which is lovely for her because she feels great doing her bit. Whilst still staying safe.

MaddieElla · 07/02/2021 16:32

I'm going for Friday as we have some terrible weather coming.

12 million is going some isn't it? A month ago it just didn't seem plausible. We have our jabbers to thank. Grin

Motorina · 07/02/2021 16:33

Worth remembering that the target isn't 13.9 million, it's everyone in categories 1-4.

I know that seems pedantic because there are 13.9 people in those categories. But, in fact, at least some doses have gone into the arms of people who happened to be passing by, vaccine centre volunteers, police etc.

I don't begrudge that (other than those who lied to get NHS slots before the systems were made robust) as far better that than wasted. But we will have to do over 13.9 million to get everyone who wants one in those priority groups.

Regardless, it is still an amazing achievement.

buttery81 · 07/02/2021 16:37

17.99% of the UK population has received at least one dose of the vaccine

And 22.7% of the UK adult (over 18s) population.

When we get to 13.25 million it’ll be 25% of all UK adults - another big milestone to look forward to!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 07/02/2021 16:43

Well if you way it up with never expecting 100% up take. We have achieved the capacity for 13.9 million. And that would be more than enough to have jabbed groups 1 to 4, possibly 5.

The fact that we will always have some mopping up of cohorts to do after targets is totally expected and understandable. Small numbers through in the overall picture.

So 13.9 million is a fantastic achievement that everyone should celebrate🥳

I am not a conspiracy theorist.
However, I want to see a lot more data than is being discussed in media.

Data sets for covid deaths - and exclusively healthy people deaths.
Then I'd want to see them compared to death stats of all kinds for at least the last 10 years to see what is going on.

So, let us see it!

Londt · 07/02/2021 16:52

🥳🥳🥳

What a jabtastic effort!

Thank you to all involved Flowers Wine

10 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!
gingeristhenewblack43 · 07/02/2021 16:53

Today's vax total is amazing news 🎉

Well done to all those involved in making this happy. You are all heroes 🙌🏻

gingeristhenewblack43 · 07/02/2021 16:55

Happen, not happy. Although I am very happy!

Look at ONs then. They will show you all that data you want.

The information is out there you just need to Google. Experts have been comparing and publishing their results throughout the pandemic. Lots of interesting graphs on this tooSmile

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 07/02/2021 16:57

This Sunday 15845 / 373.

Last Sunday 21088 / 587

So nice big drop in cases

Paddy1234 · 07/02/2021 17:16

Amazing vaccination total ❤️

Paddy1234 · 07/02/2021 17:20

Also they are reporting on now releasing lockdown until infections go down.
Well as reported earlier I have approx 7k healthcare staff and infections are decreasing massively all the time even with enhanced lateral flow tests supporting the PCR tests. Halving weekly.

Conversely though, the target is only for them to have been offered the vaccine. The government can't make them accept it so once you take into account refusals (or those who GPs have otherwise been unable to contact and haven't tried to make contact themselves) you don't actually need 13.9m to hit the target.
moonlight1705 · 07/02/2021 18:56

My sister who is in Edinburgh got her first jab on friday although she is only 32 then she is extremely vulnerable so am so happy for her. She got the Oxford one and apparently it has not wiped her out as she suspected.

buttery81 · 07/02/2021 19:25

Wonderful news @moonlight1705 - congratulations to your sister!

Wotapolava you need to be on this thread then:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4149494-Data-Stats-Daily-Numbers-started-28th-Jan

Lots of very smart people, specifically looking at data and lots of links there too.

This type of thing is very available if you look.

For example this took me less than 5 minutes to find....

www.actuaries.org.uk/system/files/field/document/Mortality%20monitor%20Week%2003%202021%20v01%202021-02-02.pdf

Admittedly I am an actuary so I knew it was worth hunting on our Faculty and Institute website but now you know it exists you can look there too. There is an enormous amount of information available for anyone who is interested. (For those that don’t know - Wikipedia tells me that “An actuary is a business professional who deals with the measurement and management of risk and uncertainty. The name of the corresponding field is actuarial science. These risks can affect both sides of the balance sheet and require asset management, liability management, and valuation skills.” Another way of putting it is “Actuaries make financial sense of the future”.)

news.sky.com/story/covid-19-uk-vindicated-over-brave-decision-to-delay-second-vaccine-dose-who-official-says-12211550

Dr Nabarro told Sky News: "The advice of the World Health Organisation on intervals between vaccine doses was based on what the manufacturers did in doing what we call the phase three trials of the vaccine and WHO and its committees really has to work on the basis of what manufacturers have told them - but isn't it wonderful that it has turned out, as a result of the UK's bravery frankly, that these extended intervals seems to be associated with greater protection."

He added: "So, yes, I think the UK's approach so far as been vindicated and yes, it has taught a great lesson for the rest of the world. Thank you, thank you British scientists."
