Will vaccinators be vaccinated?

Is anyone working as a vaccinator who didn't get the vaccine through their main job (ie you weren't already NHS staff but non-NHS who have applied to be a vaccinator)? Did they offer you the vaccine?

St John's Ambulance have said their vaccinators won't get the jab cos their procedures are 'covid secure'.

However, surely working with the public in a health care setting at close range, would class you as eligible?

Looking to hear from people doing this work.

For clarity, I am an HE administator who applied to be a vaccinator with NHSP on the side and I am wondering if I will be offered the vax or not.

I’m doing it through a GP practice and yes I had it at my training session.
I’m a dentist in my day job so would have got it in group 2 anyway though.

My friend is volunteering as a vaccinator and has been told he won't be vaccinated. Seems bizarre to me!

justchecking1 · 03/02/2021 18:08

In practice, I imagine you would get it due to using up the left over doses, even if you weren't officially offered it

JoannaDory · 03/02/2021 18:11

I think vaccinators absolutely should be given the vaccine. GP friend who has spent her time going into care homes to vaccinate residents now has covid as a result.

JoannaDory · 03/02/2021 18:12

She had not had the vaccine.

AuntyClementine · 03/02/2021 20:30

But will the people who vaccinate the vaccinators also get vaccinated? If so, what about the people who vaccinate the vaccinators who vaccinate the vaccinators?

BrownFootStool · 03/02/2021 20:34

@AuntyClementine The vaccinators of vaccintors would also be vaccinators Wink

They can't do it as a matter of course because arseholes would volunteer, go to the training, get the job and bugger off, never to be seen again.

This unfortunately. I bet you get it though.
chocolateisavegetable · 03/02/2021 20:52

I know a vaccinator. She only got the vaccine because there were some left over due to no-shows, which would have been wasted otherwise.

Honestly, there's so much training you have to do, you'd have to be really desperate 😄

I’m admin in a vaccination centre - everyone - vaccinators, admin, security, and management had the vaccine before we started.

Tupla · 03/02/2021 22:02

In the Green Book, staff working on the covid vaccination programme are counted as frontline healthcare staff (Group 2).

nevertakeabreak · 03/02/2021 22:27

I'm a vaccinator. We can only work if we've had the first vaccine

Berthatydfil · 03/02/2021 22:37

My dc is a med student and has been vaccinating in his city hubs for the last couple of weeks.
He got a left over jab at the end of his session

HalfDutchGirl · 03/02/2021 22:54

@BrownFootStool if you are part of NHSP (as am I) I believe you can apply to get a vaccine, I know you can in my health authority.

Everyone volunteering at my vaccine hub (where I also volunteer) has been able to put their name on the list if there is any left over vaccine at the end of the day. According to a BBC news report a few days ago we are considered ‘front line workers’.

JengaJanga · 03/02/2021 22:58

Prob not official

But can imagine one evening you would be vaccinated because there are ‘spare’ ones left over

Thatwentbadly · 03/02/2021 22:59

My friend has volunteered as a vaccinator and they aren’t not being giving it routinely but he has had both doses from left over stock.
