I know this is going to sound harsh but hear me out.

A friend the entire time has gone on how 'pathetic' the Lockdowns are. She refuses to follow news and updates. Has never watched one

Refuses to wear a mask as makes her sweaty.
In and out of people's houses.
Pops to bm for a browse as 'there's fuck all else to do'
You name it every rule broken. Get my drift

Anyway she was even due to sheild due to diabetes which she makes zero attempt to control and as a result is verging moribildy obese.
She refused to sheild as why should she? Why should her dc have to play in the garden (her garden is truly amazing for children too)
Why can't she go to asda with her dh and kids like normal
Why should she have to do home delivery

She's just had all over fb how she's rang the gp and she's booked jab for next week due diabetes being vulnerable. And she didn't even know there was a vaccine until one of her other mates mentioned it last week!
She's said how she's getting the jab and SD can sod off and she'll do as she pleases (which she has all along)

I just think there is more deserving people of it.

I cannot emphasise enough how she hasn't cared throughout this entire thing.

BTW I'm not jealous or anything I'm lucky enough be healthy and wait my turn for the jab. But when there are people who this is affecting

Sorry I'm ranting

@RoseAndRose, some people with combined factors were classed as ECV by their GPs/Consultants. If her BMI is well over 40, combined with the diabetes and possible other things, her GP would decide that it's appropriate. She wouldn't be eligible for the vaccine otherwise.

OP, you really need to consider that you are resenting a friend for being protected against a condition which could kill her and leave children, who you know, Motherless. What is this pandemic actually doing to you?

doireallyneedaname · 03/02/2021 16:26

Don’t know how she’s managed to book it yet unless she’s over 65. Diabetes does not put her in the CEV category.

inquietant · 03/02/2021 16:27

@SandSeaBeach

That’s the NHS for you. It’s impossible to police who deserves the service
We should instigate local character panels, they could have reps posted in A&E departments to pass rapid verdicts as people arrive.

We should be able to blackball our neighbours too.

Unsure33 · 03/02/2021 16:29

@RoseAndRose

People with diabetes did get shielding advice . My husband did from his GP a twice.

But that is to protect the person not others . So by going out and doing what she did she was mainly putting herself at risk .

The thing that annoys me most is when the government get blamed for everything when you get people like this who were potential spreaders because they were ignoring guidance to minimise risk , and probably would have been the biggest moaners if they had caught it .

Other than that I am surprised she is even bothering with the vaccine if she was ignoring everything else .

Iwonder08 · 03/02/2021 16:29

Please stop being friends with her. Nobody need friends who think there are 'more deserving people'. Are you always policing people's morals?

LadyEloise · 03/02/2021 16:30

I couldn't be friends with someone like her. She sounds like a stupid, selfish idiot.

Unsure33 · 03/02/2021 16:31

@SandSeaBeach

I agree . I feel like that about people who drink and take drugs to excess and end up in A&E

I would fine them if possible

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 03/02/2021 16:32

Well her shielding letter wasn't for weight or diabetes. So she must have another condition.

I understand how you feel. The way I'm choosing to look at it is, she's far less likely to get it, to take up a valuable hospital bed & pass it on to others.

StrangerHereMyself · 03/02/2021 16:33

If she caught the virus and needed hospitalisation they wouldn’t be willing or able to say “sod off, you don’t deserve a bed”. She’d be taken in, using a bed, needing nursing, passing it on to her kids and people caring for her. Much better for her to be vaccinated ASAP for everyone’s sake.

bigpricklyfern · 03/02/2021 16:40

Sounds like it’s a very good thing she is getting vaccinated, but I would feel exactly the same as you OP. All that effort so many people have put in, and she’s survived basically on other people’s sacrifices. I’m not sure I’d have a lot to do with her from now on.

NotSorry · 03/02/2021 16:42

So she’s all over facebook but had no idea we were in lockdown - oh come on OP, no-one is that oblivious

ErrorDetected · 03/02/2021 16:45

A relative has spent the last year spreading anti-lockdown memes and Covid misinformation on Facebook, then went to be vaccinated last week.
Funnily enough she wasn’t announcing that on Facebook.

MindGrapes · 03/02/2021 16:53

I get your annoyance, but one of the most efficient strategies to stop spread would probably be to prioritise the selfish idiots who are more likely to super-spread... wouldn't be a popular strategy though obviously and wouldn't necessarily act to reduce hospitalizations and pressure on NHS. So just be glad that in a few weeks she'll be a lot less risk to everyone else.

5128gap · 03/02/2021 17:02

As restrictions won't be lifted until a certain percentage of the population is vaccinated, the way I see it, every vaccine given, whoever gets it, takes us a bit closer to normality.
Also vaccines are not given for good behaviour, they're given to people most likely to strain the NHS if they catch the virus.
Better your friend is vaccinated than taking up a hospital bed surely?

redsquirrelfan · 03/02/2021 17:07

@SirSamuelVimes

Thankfully, healthcare is provided according to medical need, not whether one person is judged as morally "deserving" by another.
This.

And you are not her friend.

If you see her after posting this about her, you are hypocritical.

5128gap · 03/02/2021 17:16

This is just going to be the next thing for people to get 'livid' about isn't it? Lockdown policing will give way to vaccine envy.

norwegianwoodpecker · 03/02/2021 17:18

I'd be pleased to know she's getting it if she's going out and about so much

dreamerdreamer · 03/02/2021 17:21

I would be annoyed too, but silver lining at least she is smart enough to consent to get the vaccine. I have friends who behave similarly but who won't be accepting it. Questioning what I really think of them at this point.

OverTheRainbow88 · 03/02/2021 17:25

Would you also not give a liver transplant to someone who drinks alcohol?

Or not give a lung transplant to someone who has smoked?

Or someone’s shoe been in an accident because they were on their phone?

Or not give a vaccine to someone because they don’t follow the news?

alfieum · 03/02/2021 17:27

She didn't wipe her trolley so she shouldn't get the vaccine Grin

RosesAndLemonade · 03/02/2021 17:28

The more I think about this thread the more I think, in honesty OP, you're pretty bitter and mean

And to be honest, I see why you're bothering to call this person a friend, because if she happened to see the way you speak about her behind her back, well... If I were her I would be unfriending you immediately

alreadytaken · 03/02/2021 17:38

couldnt be friends with someone like that, would have told them what I though of that behaviour by now.

However I'd be glad they got the vaccine and were less of a threat to those around them. We have some vaccine deniers locally who will always be a risk - and I wont be going anywhere near them if I can possibly avoid it.

Defenbaker · 03/02/2021 17:51

She sounds awful - why are you friends with this moron?

It is annoying that she has been so selfish and thoughtless throughout, but that's no reason not to vaccinate her (although part of me wishes it was). At least she'll pose less risk to others now, and a jab costs less to taxpayers than treating her in ICU.

inquietant · 03/02/2021 17:55

Presumably Johnson will get the vaccine and he went round shaking hands with covid patients so I don't begrudge anyone else.

wonderstuff · 03/02/2021 17:55

Frustrating as she sounds, I think that we'll all be safer when people who flout the rules are vaccinated. She's clearly vulnerable should she get it and sounds like she's been lucky to have not been infected so far.
Imagine if she ended up in ICU, that wouldn't be good for anyone.
