I know this is going to sound harsh but hear me out.

A friend the entire time has gone on how 'pathetic' the Lockdowns are. She refuses to follow news and updates. Has never watched one

Refuses to wear a mask as makes her sweaty.
In and out of people's houses.
Pops to bm for a browse as 'there's fuck all else to do'
You name it every rule broken. Get my drift

Anyway she was even due to sheild due to diabetes which she makes zero attempt to control and as a result is verging moribildy obese.
She refused to sheild as why should she? Why should her dc have to play in the garden (her garden is truly amazing for children too)
Why can't she go to asda with her dh and kids like normal
Why should she have to do home delivery

She's just had all over fb how she's rang the gp and she's booked jab for next week due diabetes being vulnerable. And she didn't even know there was a vaccine until one of her other mates mentioned it last week!
She's said how she's getting the jab and SD can sod off and she'll do as she pleases (which she has all along)

I just think there is more deserving people of it.

I cannot emphasise enough how she hasn't cared throughout this entire thing.

BTW I'm not jealous or anything I'm lucky enough be healthy and wait my turn for the jab. But when there are people who this is affecting

Sorry I'm ranting

I get you, people like her make me mad as well. Personally I wouldn’t be remaining friends with her, I would just be busy all the time

bloodywhitecat · 03/02/2021 15:40

Luckily the general public don't get to decide who does and who doesn't deserve the vaccine.

Silenceisgolden20 · 03/02/2021 15:41

Why are you even friends with her?

RoseAndRose · 03/02/2021 15:42

She won't have 'refused to shield' as diabetes and obesity are not CEV inditiins, and I don't think they ever have been (and I do remember the fuss about whether diabetes was mis-classified)

So unless you have actually seen her acting recklessly, I'd just ignore this. She's inventing

Frodont · 03/02/2021 15:42

Everyone is going to get the vaccine OP. Murderers, scammers, people who are cruel to animals. Better get over it.

minchinfin · 03/02/2021 15:42

Oh god don't get me started.

Someone I know is (or was) a Covid-denier and anti-vaxxer, also believed that 5G caused Covid originally. She shops in the same supermarket as I do and all summer I would bump into her and she'd laugh at me wearing my mask. Was still not wearing one the last time I saw her in December. Kids share an activity so she is on a Whatsapp group that I am on. Early January she was on there bleating and crying and begging for help because she'd tested positive and felt too ill to go out, could we get her shopping and vitamins etc.

Didn't hear anything until last week. She's now back on the group crying about how ill she feels because she's just had the Pfizer jab because she's a part time NHS admin worker that has been wfh since April!

Karma will kick in somewhere along the line OP.

AuntyClementine · 03/02/2021 15:43

I take your point but allocating medical treatment on the basis who “deserves it” is a very slippery slope.

I’d query why you’re friends with her when you clearly can’t stand her?

Mabelann · 03/02/2021 15:43

Hopefully if it is true that the vaccination slows the spread all the people who “can’t possibly” follow the rules will get vaccinated. That will help me - I can’t be vaccinated, so I have by fingers crossed that others protect me with herd immunity until I can be vaccinated!

LegoPirateMonkey · 03/02/2021 15:43

Um, would you prefer it if she didn’t get the vaccine, caught covid, died and left her children without a mother? As that’s the extreme conclusion of denying people vaccines or other healthcare on the basis of stupidity. Would you deny her hospital treatment if she caught it and became very ill?

Vaccines really aren’t about individual ‘gain’. The more people vaccinated - and I’d argue especially the ones who disregard the rules and thus put themselves AND others at higher risk - the closer we all are to a route out of lockdown and a recovery for society as a whole.

Freshprincess · 03/02/2021 15:44

I hear you. I know in my rational mind that the more people vaccinated the better for everyone, but it does rankle a bit when it’s people who dont want it/haven’t taken it seriously.

I have a relative who works in a care home (office based So WFH and not coming into contact with people).
Refused weekly testing ‘there’s too many false positives so its useless’
Not exactly a denier but very much ‘it’s not that serious, it’s just old people, it’s no different to flu’
Said she would quit before they made her get the vaccine ‘it’s not been tested properly/you don’t know what’s in it/ it doesn’t work’

And now I hear she’s getting it done. Its hard not to begrudge it a little bit if Im honest.

GabriellaMontez · 03/02/2021 15:49

Do you also think she should have all treatment for her diabetes withdrawn as she's fat and undeserving?

LimitIsUp · 03/02/2021 15:53

Console yourself with the thought that now that AstraZenica are saying that they are confident that the vaccine helps reduce transmission, perhaps it is a good thing that a non-compliant numpty like her gets the jab and reduces the risk of contracting it and passing it on?

LivingInMySlippers · 03/02/2021 15:58

She did have a shielding letter and binned it.
When her dd had to isolate because she had symptoms she didn't keepnher in as she needs fresh air and took her to soft play and the playground in Dec.

OP posts:
Coffeeandaride · 03/02/2021 15:58

If she got it, sounds like she'd not isolate, so prob safest for all she is vaccinated.
She also could take up a hospital bed if she got ill.
Of course the worst would be her dying and bereaving her family and friends.
So its still a good thing!

Also I think less monitoring of the news would help a lot of us, although obviously she has taken it to extremes if she wasn't even aware of vaccine!!

LivingInMySlippers · 03/02/2021 15:59

And yes I'll see it as a view of she'll be transmitting it less and hopefully saving others

OP posts:
LivingInMySlippers · 03/02/2021 16:00

She wasn't even aware of the 1st lock down for days!

OP posts:
inquietant · 03/02/2021 16:04

I would let this go, focus on something worthwhile instead.

People are allowed to be wrong, foolish, obstinate etc.

This person is getting a vaccine they are entitled to, to me there's no issue.

CaptainSirTomMooreismyhero · 03/02/2021 16:05

A friend? It sounds as if you can't stand the sight of her.

I'm glad she is having the vaccine. The more people that do, the better protected the people who cannot have it.

inquietant · 03/02/2021 16:05

Her covid denial and rule breaking are totally separate from the vaccine, quite rightly.

Cpl654321 · 03/02/2021 16:07

Lol if you talk about your friends like that I wouldn't want to be your enemy!

Thankfully, vaccine distribution doesn't work based on who 'deserves' it on a personal judgement basis.

RosesAndLemonade · 03/02/2021 16:07

I had a shielding letter and binned it. What of it ? It's never been mandatory

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 03/02/2021 16:12

The vaccine priority cohorts aren’t decided according to how “deserving” someone is. Every adult in the country is going to be offered one. You could say that your “friend” should be a priority actually because her actions as well as her condition make her vulnerable should she contract Covid and make her more likely to be admitted to hospital, thus adding to strain on the NHS.

TheKeatingFive · 03/02/2021 16:17

Oh fgs stop being ridiculous.

Medical care / intervention is doled out according to need, not what is ‘deserved’.

katy1213 · 03/02/2021 16:18

Do you think they should ask for a character reference?
