Vaccine and blood thinners

Hi,

My mum is on blood thinners (not warfarin though) and has been told by the doctor that there maybe an adverse effect, not by the vaccine itself but at the site of the injection in the arm.

Has anyone had, or a relative had the vaccine who is on similar medication and how was it for them?

I'm sure it will be fine, I think shes just keen to hear from someone else in a similar situation that it was all fine if that makes sense!

Thanks in advance Smile

She just needs to tell the person vaccinating her so they can hold the cotton wool on for 2 mins, rather than just a couple of seconds. Our practice nurses actually ask if the person is on blood thinners when vaccinating them. They’ve done loads of patients on blood thinners and haven’t reported any issues so she will be fine Smile

DH is on blood thinners and has his vax on Saturday. They only ask because you might bleed at the injection site so they put a plaster on. He didn't bleed.

Both my parents are on blood thinners (apixoban I think) and had the AZ vaccine a couple of weeks ago. It didn’t cause any issues for them and they were in and out very quickly

Oh that's brilliant to hear!

Thanks both, that will reassure her Smile
