Summer wedding chances

One of my close friends was supposed to get married last year and has now rearranged it for the end of June. She has invited around 60 guests and it’s at a really lovely hotel where she gets a discount for a small number of rooms. We can now book rooms but it isn’t cheap and although I definitely want to stay there as opposed to somewhere cheaper I’m not sure whether to book now or not and if I’ll get a refund if the wedding doesn’t go ahead or if we can’t attend due to numbers. What are the chances the wedding will be allowed to go ahead with that number of guests? If it has to be whittled down to say 30 or 15 guests I fully understand that I won’t be allowed to go as she has a lot of family to cater for. I’m
not really sure what to do with booking, sorting outfits for me and dh, sorting childcare for ds etc.

Even last summer with low numbers and less variations we didn’t have group gatherings that large so can’t see it happening.

Yeah we’ve cancelled our August wedding and pushed it back to next July, as the venue is vastly unnecessary if we can only have 15-30 guests and we’ve paid the deposit already!
In terms of the room, I’d call the venue and ask about your specific situation and what their policy is. If they won’t allow cancellations closer to the time based on you not being able to attend the wedding, I’d book a local travelodge or similar with a full cancellation option.

Agree with pp call the hotel & ask for their cancellation policy.
We are getting married in August and best case planning for 50 (tier 0 in Scotland) and the hotel have said they are willing to cancel bedrooms free of charge until 2 weeks before to give us until then to have a better idea of where things will be.

A lot of our couples due to get married June-august are already moving dates to later in the year or early next. However quite a few hotels are now only giving them the option to move it to the quieter winter months.
I’m of the opinion that couples should plan for 15 and hope for 30, if their wedding can’t go ahead with low numbers then they should move it.
I really hope weddings do happen this year as lots of suppliers and venues are really struggling.
