Forced to take the vaccine

Craponacracker · 02/02/2021 18:03

I feel like I’m being emotionally forced to take the vaccine- I’m not in a patient facing role but via work I’m eligible for the vaccine - think it’s the AZ one. Every meeting there is a push to take the vaccine- about how lucky we are to be in this position and how we should be doing the right thing. I get that but I don’t feel ready.
At home my husband is all over saying the same things and also how I’m putting everyone at risk when I can do something to avoid this. I’m having panic attacks because of this...I’m not saying I won’t take it I just need more time to prepare myself.
I’m also very scared of side effects and long term effects (if any)

And what about the side effects and long term issues you could get from covid? Do they concern you?

Chailatteplease · 02/02/2021 19:34

No need to be scared of side effects OP (coming from someone who had them quite badly) they’re still not as scary as covid, long covid and their potential complications.

That’s a kind and helpful response ☺️

@nicky7654

Don't be pressured into having it. I know lots of people who arnt and their rights not to. Don't listen to scare mongery either. If your fit and well your survival rate is 99.9 % anyway. My mum had it and was very ill where she was on the floor for hours so I'm not having it. I don't know the side effects yet.
If we all thought like this...........

I had the vaccine and was perfectly fine everybody is different.

Updatemate · 02/02/2021 19:37

Loads of vaccines cause mild side effects- the MMR can give you side effects for up to 6 weeks, typhoid vaccine can make you vomit and flu-like for up to a week and yet people gleefully get that just to go on holiday! Tetnus almost invariably gives you a dead arm or hot and sore spot.

The Covid vaccine q

Chailatteplease · 02/02/2021 19:41

Also, just to add I have CFS/ME and was very worried the vaccine would worsen my symptoms but it hasn’t. 3 days later and I was back to normal. Relieved to have some protection now.

Pixxie7 · 02/02/2021 19:42

Nobody can force you to have it but that said what if everyone refused this virus would take many thousand more lives so I have to agree with previous posters that it is a selfish attitude unless you also intended to hide away for the rest of your life.

bumbleymummy · 02/02/2021 19:50

It’s ultimately your decision. If you don’t want it then don’t have it.

Sunshinegirl82 · 02/02/2021 19:54

Anxiety is awful and not rational. It sounds like you might be quite anxious generally OP? If that's the case you might benefit from discussing it with your GP if you haven't already?

Anxiety makes it really difficult to know what's "normal" rational caution and what's an anxiety response. Have you tried writing down your concerns and addressing them one at a time? Sometimes that helps me to rationalise things.

Musmerian · 02/02/2021 19:54

Effects people effects.

Blueberryflavour · 02/02/2021 20:00

I’ve had the vaccine 10 days ago through my work ( not NHS) lots of my colleagues have also had theirs over the last 3 weeks. The only side effects were a sore arm and feeling a bit off the next day. I’m not aware of any of them taking time off afterwards. Except for one staff member who is CEV she did have side effects, she was informed by her GP in advance that she might have side effects due to her medical condition, she chose to go ahead as she knew that if she did get COVID she would likely be very unwell. She needed a few hrs in hospital being monitored after the jab, she is now fine and still thinks the vaccine is better than a full dose of COVID. She is planning to have her 2nd jab, with additional safeguards.

shinynewapple2021 · 02/02/2021 20:28

@Craponacracker like you I am eligible for the vaccine through work , and like you currently not front facing .

I have been very worried about catching Covid, but was also a little unsure if having the vaccine . In my case because I thought maybe others were more entitled than me, but seeing that there were times but aside for health and social care staff decided to have it done. After reading some of the side effects people were having I did feel a little anxious , and also the possibility of catching it when I went for the vaccine .

However I went along and had it done last Friday . Of my colleagues a couple had mild flu symptoms for 24 hours but the rest of us just had a sore arm the next day .

Chesneyhawkes1 · 02/02/2021 20:32

I had it Sunday. My arm was sore Sunday night and yesterday I felt a bit tired and off.

Today I felt back to normal and went for a long run. I had the AZ one and I'm so glad I did.

Frequentflier · 02/02/2021 20:38

I don't think you should have it. I think someone who really wants it should have yours.

Fembot123 · 02/02/2021 20:47

😂😂 Wow
Craponacracker · 02/02/2021 20:52

@Chesneyhawkes1 thank you - that’s helpful to know

Ginfordinner · 02/02/2021 20:53

Approximately 10-15% of covid cases progress to severe disease, and about 5% become critically ill.

The risk of serious side effects from the vaccine is much, much lower than the risk from catching covid. Having a reaction shows that the vaccine is working because it stimulates the immune system and the body forms antibodies against the infection that is only “feigned” by the vaccination. It shows that you have a robust immune system.

Vaccine facts here

Again, looking at it rationally. You are anxious all the time about catching covid. Covid isn’t going to go away. You are anxious about having the vaccine. If you have the vaccine, it is done, finished. You can stop being anxious about it.

islockdownoveryet · 02/02/2021 20:54

Op I don’t understand when you say you need to prepare, what do you need to prepare for ?.

Ginfordinner · 02/02/2021 20:56

The top fact was from The WHO and the vaccine facts are from the NHS website.

Hyppogriff · 02/02/2021 20:59

Ugh. Of course YABU.

jimmyhill · 02/02/2021 21:00

It's selfish not to have the jab, but if you don't want it, don't have it. Nobody will ever know. If you are asked, lie. This doesn't have to be a massive "thing".

lightand · 02/02/2021 21:00

If you need more time, take it.

Is it really your DH you are scared of?

Frequentflier · 02/02/2021 21:00

I mean what else is there to say to someone who thinks their husband is using them as a lab rat? Not much, really. Waiting on absolute tenterhooks for my husband to get the vaccine and I likely wont get it until 4 months later. I would be quite pissed off if he thought I was using him as a guinea pig.

itsgettingweird · 02/02/2021 21:07

What is it you need to mentally prepare for?

The worst I had from my pfeizer vaccine last Friday was a rash from the plaster they put on my arm!

Haffiana · 02/02/2021 21:13

On the plus side you should get better phone reception after the jab.
