Walking to work today I thanked a woman I thought had stepped aside to allow me to walk on the path. "Oh I'm not stopping for that" she shouted "I don't believe in masks - it's like wearing a muzzle. You'll find that more people are going to die by having the vaccine" I was so shocked I couldn't even think of a response. It's the first time I've personally come across someone so vocal about not believing in Covid and being so bloody stupid! Angry

You’ve done well to get this far Op

Mamamia456 · 02/02/2021 16:56

I'm confused, how did she know you were thanking her for keeping her distance.

TwirpingBird · 02/02/2021 16:57

My DH is a gas engineer and works in peoples houses. He says about 60% of the people who book him in for completely non essential work are vulnerable or should be shielding, and of those about 40% actively refuse to wear a mask around him, and quite a lot of people get aggressive with him when he asks them to wear one or even if he wears one himself. He has had numerous (neatly always 50+ men he says) people get very vocal about how masks are useless and the vaccines are stupid and even the virus doesnt exist.

He went into one woman's house, mid lockdown, she was 85 and very sick in numerous ways. Her son was there. My DH said 'are you sure you want me to come in? This work can wait. I work in 6 houses a day'. The son said "nah. She has had a good life. Its fine".

He is convinced lots of people die of stupidity.

The son said "nah. She has had a good life. Its fine"

That is so heartbreaking.

I’m afraid that what the government have done to us are making people feel untrusting. Ok I’m not that far gone but I don’t believe a word that comes out of their mouths . I don’t blame people for feeling worried and wondering what’s going on and I certainly don’t judge people for having an opinion and come to a forum to mock them.

Notasyoungasiwas · 02/02/2021 17:05

@Mamamia456 Presumably because I said thank you as I passed her. She had stopped walking and stepped to the side. I'm not sure what else she would think I was thanking her for?

I wear a mask indoors like in shops because I have to. I don’t particularly believe in masks or the government narrative but I don’t go round shouting at people.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 02/02/2021 18:03

Sure this happened.

Not only did she know that you specifically thanked her for social distancing, but was so bothered about it she just had to put you straight and go on an unrelated anti covid rant.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 02/02/2021 18:05

I do this all the time...and just about everyone acknowledges it, i also acknowledge it if someone does it for me

We all seem to understand what we are thanking each other for

Notasyoungasiwas · 02/02/2021 18:11

@Rufus Yes, I agree!

I do this all the time. Doesn’t everyone? I get thanked too for giving people space, it’s just manners isn’t it? Confused

Where did she say she doesnt believe in covid Hmm her theory around vaccines may be questionable but nowhere does she say about not believing in covid.

Notasyoungasiwas · 02/02/2021 19:52

@Calm I assumed that she had stepped aside so that I could walk on the path

Because I remember a time before Covid when often I got out of people's way , or they got out of mine, or we gave way to each other and so on, that had nothing to do with social distancing just politeness and curtesy .
