I have severe copd despite being young so classed as vulnerable and actively shielded.

So I'm nervous can anyone put my mind at ease I will definitely be having it just nervous about side effects and how unwell I'll be after.

Oxford or Pfizer?
People I know who have had the A/Z Oxford vaccs spent the next day in bed with muscle aches, temp & fatigue but mostly fine the following day. People I know who have had the Pfizer had a few days of fatigue, headaches and a couple had sinus pain. Seemed to last longer than the A/Z side effects but were milder.

Tbh the flu vaccs this year put me to bed but I could carry on after Covid vaccine, despite feeling a bit rough.

I'm not sure which one I just jumped at the chance to get one was so happy forgot to ask I been isolating for a long long time now. Thanks for your reply.

Be prepared for the fact that it might wipe you out for a maximum of 48 hours. Have microwave ready meal in the fridge, have someone you can call on to walk the dog etc.

But v exciting and good news despite that.

Elderly dad with COPD he had no side effects he had Pfizer

lljkk · 02/02/2021 18:16

I know nearly a dozen people who had no effects at all, or a slightly sore arm at very most.

thatgingergirl · 02/02/2021 18:48

My dad is 88, and has COPD. He had the Pfizer 3 weeks ago. He had a 'heavy' arm - no other after effects.

flumposie · 02/02/2021 19:53

I had the pfizer last Thursday. I had a sore arm and tingly fingers that day . Nothing else.

covetingthepreciousthings · 02/02/2021 19:55

Just a heads up you have to wait for 15 mins after (just to be monitored) , incase you didn't already know, it's normal practice. Good luck for Saturday Smile

teenagetantrums · 02/02/2021 19:58

I had phizer...no side effects at all except a sore arm. It will be fine.

Theodoreb · 02/02/2021 20:00

Aww thank you all so much I feel a lot less anxious now, just excited to finally be able to go out.

I had AZ and was wiped out for 2 days. Be prepared!

Biscoffaddict · 02/02/2021 20:17

I had the Pzifzer and was fine apart from a very sore arm.

Anothermother3 · 02/02/2021 20:20

Pfizer was fine just a sore arm and maybe a bit tired but that’s not unusual. Think the Oxford can wipe you out for a couple of days but all very normal.

Popfan · 02/02/2021 20:22

My 75 year old mum with copd had the oxford last Thursday, no side effects apart from a bit of an achy arm. You'll be fine, it's great news!!

Ibizababyy · 02/02/2021 20:24

Had the Pfizer and had an ever so slightly sore arm for a day- flu jab hurt more this year. No idea if it actually helps but hardly does any harm but I took paracetamol when I had the jab and 2 more times after at 4 hourly intervals. Like you do to babies when they have their jabs. A nurse told me to do it years ago after my flu vaccine and I have ever since.

Ilikewinter · 02/02/2021 20:24

Ive had pfizer just had very sore arm for 24hrs. 2 friends had oxford, one had no side effects the other had flu like symptoms and was wiped out for a day.

user1493413286 · 02/02/2021 20:28

I had the Pfizer one and had a sore arm that night and a bit of an upset tummy the next day although nothing awful other than that felt fine

AlisonWhatsTheMatter · 02/02/2021 20:30

I’ve had the Pfizer jab and only had a sore arm, only actually felt it was sore went I went to bed and lay on that side. Apart from that I’ve been fine.

MIL, 70, has COPD, she had the Pfizer jab, no side effects at all.

My Mum had the AZ jab, felt fine the same day but next day felt a bit ‘off’, a bit like she was coming down with a cold, also had a sore arm. Next day she was fine.

Skyppy · 02/02/2021 21:37

I had AZ and just had a sore arm. DH the same. DS 22 (NHS staff) had the AZ and felt feverish for a day.
You will probably only find out which one you're getting on the day.
All a tiny price to pay for eventual release from risk and shielding.

MisgenderedSwan · 02/02/2021 21:51

I had the Pfizer a couple of weeks ago. I got a slight headache for an hour and a slightly heavy arm. My parents both had the Oxford AstraZeneca the other week, no side effects.

WhoseThatGirl · 02/02/2021 21:54

I had the AZ and had no side effects at all.

campion · 02/02/2021 22:08

DH is part of the AZ Oxford trial so has had to keep a detailed diary of any effects. He had 2 standard doses last autumn and no side effects at all, not even a sore arm.
He found out yesterday that he did have the covid vaccine, not the control, as he was called for the vaccine roll out so was unblinded.
Obviously it affects people differently but nothing major by the sound of it.

Theodoreb · 07/02/2021 07:13

Just in case anyone else is nervous I had the Oxford yesterday morning only side effect I have is a sore arm.

I had Oxford midday yesterday. Dosed up and went to bed early with a bit of a headache and had a restless night - first shivery and achy, took some paracetamol, temp came down but was dripping with sweat the rest of the night. In bed now feeling ok just tired with a headache.

Theodoreb · 07/02/2021 16:24

Woke up earlier today after a nap feeling achy and cold with a mild headache took some pain killers helped a lot.
