Lockdown what lockdown????

novaparty12 · 02/02/2021 13:40

I work in a school and staff have been working on a rota system. However from yesterday all staff are now back in as we have 75% of the children in. So many workplaces have told staff they don't want their staff working from home as productivity levels are low because they are too busy homeschooling their children, so children need to go to school so parents can work on site in their workplace, Both sets of our neighbours now back at work in their offices full time as company can not afford all the technology and technical support to keep them at home. Traffic near us at school time especially is still horrendous, coffee shops although only offering take aways are attracting huge crowds of people, shops such as wickes, home bargains etc are rammed. With this new strain spreading surely lockdown should be stricter???

It must depend where you live? My class of 25 has 1 child in! My daughter's class of 16 she is the one child in.

Londonmummy66 · 02/02/2021 15:52

Good point but I had to get craft supplies for my class at school as more children than normal at short notice this week so no time to order.

Sorry but I don't buy that as an essential trip. Couldn't you have used that time to devise a different activity using the supplies that you already had? It's a bit like my saying I had to make an additional trip to the supermarket to buy eggs to make an omelette when I had the ingredients at home to make a risotto instead.

rossclare · 02/02/2021 15:53

And this is the point.

Everyone has their own reason for having to be in a various shop. Why do you think that your reason trumps everyone else's?

GreenSlide · 02/02/2021 16:13

These threads make me laugh. People who are livid because they have spotted other people out and about whilst they were also out and about. Wind your neck in OP, there is a lockdown and it's having an impact on the figures. We're doing ok, even those of us who go to the shop sometimes.

As for complaining about children being in school, in my opinion they should all be in school. So can't join your outrage there.

novaparty12 · 02/02/2021 16:16

I understand why people are done with it but it is very frustrating when the government are saying "stay home protect the NHS" and through no fault of their own whether work or money dictates they can't stay home. My children have not seen their friends for months but their friends in school get the social interaction. It should be instilled properly or not at all.

"Instilled?"

And rates are falling markedly. Lockdown is working. That's despite people like yourself popping out to be non-essential craft supplies and tut-tutting about everyone else doing the same thing.

User133847 · 02/02/2021 16:23

The restrictions are working. Cases are about two thirds down over the last month.

Just like they did in November in many areas when there was a lockdown.

The problem has been dealing with the fallout when the restrictions ease (I.e. December, particularly tier 2).

Send your kids in then?
novaparty12 · 02/02/2021 16:56

My children are teens so able to stay home and work. If they were primary aged I would have to send them in. Definitely seems that lockdown is being adhered to in certain areas which is great and that some schools only have a few pupils in. I agree there is maybe some scaremongering going on but there are so many mixed messages being bandied about that people are now making their own choices. I just think there needs to be more clarity.

I work in a nursery and all our children - aside from two or three - are attending. When you work day after day in an environment where you cant social distance and the government dont care (no lateral flow tests, vaccine priority etc) then it's hard to take lockdown seriously outside the workplace.

As it is though I'm getting shopping delivered and staying home on my days off and my poor children- who had covid over xmas, caught from my dd who works in a hospital - are stuck at home missing their friends and probably struggling with their school work as I'm not there to help.

I'm finding it increasingly hard to stay worried about the virus. My children has it mildly and I didnt catch it. Going to the shop is far safer than when my dd or I go to work!

whiteflores · 02/02/2021 17:22

Ah, I don't think it's lack of clarity but lack of agreement / consent.

I'm fast approaching g the position where I will not agree to simultaneously work and homeschool and do everything else simultaneously. No.

I suspect others have reached that point faster than me and been able to use a KW slot. Good for them.

whiteflores · 02/02/2021 17:22

Too many simultaneouslys there!

Teens at school are hooked up to laptops all day at the school I work at.

It’s too much @whiteflores, the amount you have to do not the amount of simultaneouslys 😂
IndecentFeminist · 02/02/2021 17:26

Your school's fault. We have a max of 48 out of 210. Strictly limited to 12 per bubble, and out of 4 bubbles only 1 is full.

Shelovesamystery · 02/02/2021 17:28

@BoKatan

Yeah all the figures show that this lockdown isn't working and cases continue to rise exponentially and we need to get the army on the streets and lock everyone in their homes...

What's that? Cases are falling with an exponential decay? But...but how can I moan about the actions of other people now?

😂 This! With bells on!

And I agree with pp's, the fear factor has gone. When they did that announcement about the SA African variant (was it last night or the night before?) I was like 🙄🥱 " okay so when is lockdown ending? "

whiteflores · 02/02/2021 17:34

Thanks @Fembot123 ... can you tell my brain is fried!

MonsterKidz · 02/02/2021 17:36

My area is really really quiet. I do live rurally and in Scotland so maybe that’s the difference But even compared to ‘normal’ there is no one about. When I’ve gone to the supermarket it has dead. Lack of cars on streets, hardly anyone about. School has less than 5% of its usual numbers so really just for critical workers/vulnerable.

whiteflores · 02/02/2021 17:36

@Shelovesamystery yes, me too, I felt a "la la, not listening" reaction ConfusedI think we are all just so weary.

Fembot123 · 02/02/2021 17:36

I’m not surprised, it’s a nightmare time.
Calmandmeasured1 · 02/02/2021 17:37

Traffic really quiet by me. I hardly see a soul although I did have to go to a DIY store at the weekend for an emergency item and was surprised at the amount of cars in the car park which also serves a large pet store. There were hardly any cars at Asda.

crimsonlake · 02/02/2021 17:39

Local roads near me are quieter in the morning when I set off for the motorway. Once on the motorway it is as busy as ever. Returning home motorway traffic is really heavy as are the local roads.
What happened to 'only travel if necessary' You have to wonder where everyone is going?
I cannot do my job from home and am classed as a keyworker, so I have travelled from the start.
A tank of petrol used to last me twice as long initially as the roads were deserted. Now I get only a few more days out of the tank.

Layladylay234 · 02/02/2021 17:40

Ahhh I love threads like these. Just waiting for the old,we should be JUST like China where they nailed people into flats...

Hardbackwriter · 02/02/2021 17:43

I honestly don't know where you think they're going that's so nefarious? To look at closed shops?
