Lockdown what lockdown????

I work in a school and staff have been working on a rota system. However from yesterday all staff are now back in as we have 75% of the children in. So many workplaces have told staff they don't want their staff working from home as productivity levels are low because they are too busy homeschooling their children, so children need to go to school so parents can work on site in their workplace, Both sets of our neighbours now back at work in their offices full time as company can not afford all the technology and technical support to keep them at home. Traffic near us at school time especially is still horrendous, coffee shops although only offering take aways are attracting huge crowds of people, shops such as wickes, home bargains etc are rammed. With this new strain spreading surely lockdown should be stricter???

Stop moaning. Case rates are declining, hospital admissions are declining. In a few weeks we will be opening schools to all anyway.

Hardbackwriter · 02/02/2021 14:34

I know people on MN are convinced that the vast majority of children are still in school and it may be true in some schools but it's just not true nationally - the figure is that 21% of primary school pupils and 5% of secondary pupils are in. There must be quite a few empty schools to counterbalance all the MN ones where almost everyone is in!

Petitmum · 02/02/2021 14:36

I'm in Wales........my area was over 1000 cases per 100.000 just after Christmas but now we are down to around 130. It still feels like lockdown is being observed around here.

HesterShaw1 · 02/02/2021 14:37

@Youngatheart00

I agree, it’s really poor. The fear factor just seems to have gone plus the economic realities kicking in for business. It’s worrying.
The fear factor is being ramped up on a daily basis.

It's so utterly transparent.

pawivy · 02/02/2021 14:40

It's not true here in Scotland. Two key workers and zero family support or no place (vulnerable children aside) in our local authority. My sister is about to lose her home. She is key, partner is not but employer will not furlough. Two primary children. Elderly parents, no help.

zoemum2006 · 02/02/2021 14:42

There are 12 out of the 60 children in my DD's year 6 class. I imagine you can do much better social distancing than you could with full classes.

DD at secondary school is almost 100% at home.

I'm in a London suburb and am keeping our office open to maintain the infrastructure so the rest of my staff can work from home. Totally CV-19 secure but it means I get to see what a town centre is like during lockdown.

It's quiet. Really quiet. Yes, there are people around, but nowhere near as many as there were pre-covid or even pre the current lockdown. I don't know what the (open) shops are like as I don't go in them, but the streets and passing traffic and busses are noticeably quieter.

The only time I go in the shopping centre is to get my weekly rapid test. The first week I did it (pre- current lockdown) it was rammed - huge queues and took me about 40 mins to get through and do my test. Now there are more staff than people getting tests, I've not queued for weeks and I'm in and out within 5 minutes.

I go past numerous schools on my way to work and I have only seen people going in to the nurseries - there's certainly no usual hoards of kids walking in to school.

I've not seen my parents since August last year or anyone outside my own household since October. I have seen my hairdresser more in the last year than I've seen my own family!

It does seem that some areas are taking it more seriously than others though.

Oh dear

SueEllenMishke · 02/02/2021 15:08

Yet another post on this????

ChocOrange1 · 02/02/2021 15:12

The list of things which are closed, is much longer than the list of things which are open.
You can hardly complain that shops are "packed" when you are also there, contributing to the fact they are busy.

Fembot123 · 02/02/2021 15:13

It’s so disheartening seeing this crap when there is very much a lockdown and lots of people are on the edge with how much more they can deal worh.

Ilovenewyear · 02/02/2021 15:13

Completely agree. My DS hates the live zoom meetings with his teacher where most of his class are waving in the background!

Don’t mean to derail but same here! Why do they show the children in school?! I’d been trying to provide some comfort to my child by saying most children were at home like her.
Apparently not. Can’t believe school show them all because it’s quite easy to identify which children must be categorised as vulnerable. I would have thought that should be private.

I don’t disagree with you OP. I would appreciate them tightening up some of the restrictions and I say that as someone whose job is severely impacted by lockdown.

Fembot123 · 02/02/2021 15:13

How would you get live lessons if not at the same time as the kids at school?

BoKatan · 02/02/2021 15:17

Yeah all the figures show that this lockdown isn't working and cases continue to rise exponentially and we need to get the army on the streets and lock everyone in their homes...

What's that? Cases are falling with an exponential decay? But...but how can I moan about the actions of other people now?

Lockdown what lockdown????
Kljnmw3459 · 02/02/2021 15:18

My area is definitely a lot quieter than normal. Not totally quiet of course but mostly people seem to be doing their best to follow the rules. Numbers are coming down so that's a good sign that the current level of restrictions are working well.

MarshaBradyo · 02/02/2021 15:18

Feels like lockdown from here

No school, park and supermarket without others that’s it

Lanzo · 02/02/2021 15:21

The numbers are coming down in our area and have been for the last few weeks.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 02/02/2021 15:23

Employers need to allow working from home for homeschooling parents. The government needs to provide for employers to do that.

The mum's and dad's of the kids in your school likely have no choice, and it's just left down to employer goodwill.

Abracadabra12345 · 02/02/2021 15:24

@BoKatan

Yeah all the figures show that this lockdown isn't working and cases continue to rise exponentially and we need to get the army on the streets and lock everyone in their homes...

This made me laugh 😆 I
AuntyClementine · 02/02/2021 15:26

You see that over there on the horizon? Yeah, that’s the ship that’s already sailed.

The fear factor amongst most of the public is over. They’re sick of not seeing their family and there’s a disconnect where people don’t see the link between their actions and what’s going on in hospitals, etc.

I’m not saying that’s right and (for the record) I’m following the restrictions. But that’s the reality.

Seriouslymole · 02/02/2021 15:36

Tragically, and ridiculously, it still seems like lockdown here too. Haven't seen parents/grandparents for months, children are struggling massively with no school and no friends. So whilst I'm delighted for the 75% of children who are at school, I'm devastated for the 25%, mine included, who are falling further behind.

Also devastated for the leisure, travel, hospitality industry which is dying on its arse.

KylieKoKo · 02/02/2021 15:41

@novaparty12

Good point but I had to get craft supplies for my class at school as more children than normal at short notice this week so no time to order. Car park was almost full at 5pm last night!!
I'm sure everyone else there thought they had a good reason to go...

You can't complain that other people are using shops that are open when you are too!

Most places are closed and 75% of children in school is better than 100%. Cases are falling when they were rising before so most people must be staying in more than they were before.
