Hospital-based Covid test, how do I get the results?

I had to go to A&E 4 days ago and whilst there was swabbed for covid. I haven't had any results, does anyone know how I get these? I dont have any paperwork either. Will they be on my medical records? Reluctant to bother my GP surgery unnecessarily. I'm self isolating anyway having come into close contact due to being in A&E, but aware that the rest of my household isn't, whereas they would have to if I tested positive.

I'm in hospital currently (not for covid) and have had 3. They just told me that the hospital testing dept would contact me if they came back negative. If not contact assume negative. They said they don't have time to call everyone for every test result , so if you don't hear you don't have it.
4 days ago I think you'd have almost certainly heard if you were.

My daughter had a hospital test before admission for surgery recently and they said they'd only be in touch if it was positive. So I agree with the above poster- think you'd have heard already if positive.

I had one in hospital last year, I didn’t get told until my DH asked, apparently they don’t tell you unless it’s positive at my hospital! Not sure if it’s the same everywhere though.

My mum.was tested twice in A&E. Presume they dont contact you unless its positive as she never heard either

LtJudyHopps · 01/02/2021 21:28

Yes my mum is having regular tests due to going for regular bloods at the hospital. No news is good news is their approach! Also the same for my Nan with her pre-op at another hospital.

I received a phone call with my daughters results when she had one whilst admitted. The results were negative but they still called.

You'll only be contacted if positive.

Thanks all! Very reassuring.

My DD was admitted for an emergency operation last year. They swabbed her about an hour before her operation when she was in great pain, so she didn't ask about follow up. She wasn't feeling great when discharged either, but I assume they'd have told her if the test was positive while she was in hospital. Due to pressure at the moment, I'd understand if they only let people know if they were positive.
