I've just been speaking to my dad who is getting the vaccine on Thursday. I said thats great and positive to hear, his response- Yea at least i will get some protection, not a lot

Surely something is better than nothing is it not.?? Wish I could get him out of this view i physically can't understand why he doesn't seem pleased . He is in his 70s

My DM and DF are a bit the same. They are definitely not unrealistic about catching it (we are all realistic that my df combination of underlying conditions and age there would be a high likelihood he wouldn't survive Covid). They have been extremely careful . Almost obsessively so.

I think it's just a reaction to everything really. There have been so many false stops and starts where things seemed to improve and then got worse , for my DP it just seems too good to be true. They don't want to let themselves hope.

They both have them booked and will most definitely attend. It's not that they don't think it's good they are just afraid to hope.

It's not true to say people who feel like this didn't take it seriously. It's been a lot for people to take in , I can understand the fear that the light at the end of the tunnel might be a train.

I think the change in dosing doesn’t help it’s a massive gamble which might pay out and might not. Even places with vaccine supplies that could shorten the gap aren’t permitted to because of inequality concerns. Seems crazy

There seems to be a lot of policing of thoughts and feelings at the moment. I was told my face mask wouldn’t protect me as I didn’t believe in it! I only wear a face mask when I have to but science isn’t affected by belief.

Personally, I would assume he's been hearing nonsense about how the first dose doesn't give you much protection & the second dose is months away, with your mums even further away. A bit dispiriting after having been told he'd be getting both doses sooner.

Hopefully you'll be able to cheer him up a bit when you see him

If you are worried about having him in your car or it's a problem, you can check they're not doing them at the health centre near him, the invitation to the mass testing sites are just that, an invitation, he doesn't have to accept it. His surgery will be able to advise you if his options.
