We have three approved vaccine that are not yet available in the UK. Does anyone know which we will get first and when?

I think Moderna is supposed to be Spring

CoffeeandCroissant · 01/02/2021 18:59

Moderna is from April, but small amounts, don't know about the others.

Motorina · 01/02/2021 19:02

Moderna, I suspect. BBC reports it is expected in the UK in the spring.

The other two aren't yet approved yet, and only reported results a few days ago.

BBC reports Novavax in the second half of the year. I haven't seen a date for J&J yet.

Yes good point I got over excited. I thought Novavax and Johnson & Johnson had already been approved! I assume they both will be soon.

They have been infuriatingly non-specific about timings. I don't understand why Novavax didn't start manufacturing earlier but they have said 'summer'.

Janssen haven't given an estimate but I hope spring. I have seen April bandied about for Moderna, but I'm not sure how many doses.

For Scotland it's just over 4000 doses per week from week commencing 04/04/21 then rising to just over 13000 per week from the first week of May. So, fairly easy to work out a rough estimate for the whole of the UK from that.

Moderna has already been approved tested and used in the states i think.
Feb Europe meant to get some of their order not as much they ordered.
Moderna has been approved by the ema and MHRA here.
Janson which is Johnson and Johnson still last stage trial still needs be approved and they say maybe can produce in June.
Novavax and valneva late 2021 or even 2022 so far off.
Also I read novavax have fulfill their American order before uk and elsewhere and will be made in teesside.
Valneva is made in Scotland

The eu haven't placed their orders for valneva or norovax so won't get until later than us in 2022.
So main 3 definate are just az, phizer and moderna. For next 3 to 6months.

It's what was published by the Scottish government before the UK government asked them to unpublish it. Grin (The UK government didn't want other countries to see how many vaccines we were getting, but journalists have since published the numbers on twitter and calculated the UK numbers from that.) The numbers for Moderna are tiny and not arriving until April, so govt probably not bothered about those, but likely they didn't want the AstraZeneca and Pfizer numbers published as those are much larger...
