Fit note for covid?

dingoesatemybaby · 01/02/2021 17:48

I tested positive for covid on 22/01 and have been off work sick since this date. My isolation officially ended today but I am still quite unwell and unfit for work.

Does anyone know what the protocol is for obtaining a fit note for covid? I have seen the 111 isolation note but this only covers me for my isolation period which has now passed, not for longer term sickness due to covid. My doctors surgery just have a notice on the website to use the isolation note and not to contact them for a fit note. Anyone else been in this situation? (I imagine it's common as it takes 14 days average to recover for even mild cases!)

I can't access any of the sickness policy documents as I am obviously not in work and my line manager is on leave so just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and what did you do?

Yes me - still not well enough to go back to work and have had sick notes from my GP since end of isolating. Keep hoping I will feel well enough but not yet unfortunately.

Phone the GP and ask for a fit note to be prepared for you to have collected.

I tested positive on 22/01 and I spoke to my GP last week about something unrelated and she gave me a fit note for a further 2 weeks from the date I spoke to her so until 10/2.
I would just call your GP and ask.

Thankyou.

They have an online request system so I'll send something via that!

DH was in the same situation as you. Our GP has a system enabling you to apply for a fit note online, so he went through that. GP phoned him, asked a load of questions, and the fit note arrived in the post next day. He got it for one week initially, but was told to ring again if he needed longer.

His first week of illness was actually annual leave between Christmas and New Year - great, eh?

You can get annual leave back if you have a fit note for the period, this is law so ask the employer how they want to credit it to him.

You can fill in the 111 isolation note form in again starting from the day that your previous note ran out and tick the box that says you have coronavirus symptoms.
