Metallic taste

Hi

I've ordered a covid test as I've had a very strong metallic taste but no other symptoms. Can anyone please tell me if this is a symptom? I feel I'm being a bit dramatic but an elderly relative has just passed away with it (no-one I've been in contact with) so I'm getting myself a bit worried. Nothing I can do until test but I was curious if that particular change in taste is covid related?

Sorry to ask but any chance you could be pregnant?

A friend of mine had a metallic taste and tested positive. She did have other symptoms though.

Thank you both. I took a pregnancy test to be on safe side, I have the coil and it came back negative.

I just cannot shift this horrible taste! I can still taste things but it's the metallic thats there constantly. I'm probably worrying over nothing but it's hard not to x

I had a change of taste when I was positive. I wouldn't say mine was metallic though, it was more of an oily/greasy taste.

Thanks, hope you're well now x

You might have a dental infection, I had a weird metal taste in my mouth for a while last year and that turned out to be the reason why. I too panicked about covid so I get your worry.

I have exactly the same but tested negative twice

We are a family of four and currently all positive - the very first symptom we all had was a headache that wouldn’t go away . We are about a week in and my husband said yesterday he had a metallic taste . I have the taste in your mouth you get with some colds - I can still taste/smell everything . Personally I would ignore the “symptoms “ if something doesn’t feel right then do what you are doing and get a test. My youngest tested positive first (she is at school) and test centre basically insinuated we were wasting our time getting her tested as she wasn’t showing one of the three symptoms - infuriated me as it could easily put people off getting tested and we could have sent her to school !

DH had a metallic test, but could taste food as well. The metallic taste was a kind of constant background. It started a few days after his other symptoms and lasted a couple of weeks.

We didn’t think he might be pregnant, as I’m past the menopause Grin

You’re right to get a test.

Could you be anaemic? I don’t absorb iron and know I need an infusion when I get a metallic taste in my mouth.
