Isle of Man is out of lockdown as of today! All restrictions lifted and everything back to normal with just border controls.
Hooray!!!!

  • Note from MNHQ: We've edited the title to make it clear the OP's posting about the Isle of Man only. The original title said: Out of Lockdown! Ends today (and was getting a few people's hopes up)

Ive just seen Alex Bell on the NW news hugging his mum for the first time in weeks and it brought a lump to my throat, would love to see my parents, let alone give em a hug.

@Chicchicchicchiclana

I'm sure the op didn't mean to do a click baity title and it just slipped her mind to put Isle of Man in the thread title.

Fwiw I thought they were out of lock down all along! That guy who went over on his jet ski got sent packing, I thought, because they were free of the virus. And I seem to remember some builders from the mainland being arrested for buying sandwiches in Tesco.

They were out of lockdown for many months, I think they've only been back in it for 3 or 4 weeks.

Manxies get a wee bit cross when this adjacent isle is referred to as "the mainland"😉

I do apologise. Very envious from this slightly bigger island over here Grin

Feeling incredibly awkward about even posting this. When I originally posted about being so happy about IoM being out of lockdown, I did it in total innocence of actually being happy about a bit of normality returning to a small part of our world. I never expected some of the comments I have read (bum sex comment excluded of course, not a total prude, haha).

People who have commented negatively - no, I never meant to gloat. WTAF. Says more about you than me. I was just happy,

I could go on, but am frankly amazed. Amazed at the lovely people who have the empathy and good humour to think it IS a good thing that part of our world is doing alright, and even though so many people are still having a pretty awful time, there is light at the end of the road, and to celebrate that is not gloating or showing off, it is just sharing.
Thought that was what MN was about.

You’re absolutely right. It cheered me up to think there is a place in the British isles, so close to home (ok so I am in the Midlands, but still!) that can enjoy some normality. It made me feel happy. So thank you for posting!
Updatemate · 01/02/2021 22:51

You should be happy.

And for the rest of us it's a little glimmer of hope

Quaagars · 01/02/2021 23:07

I hear the mainland and think Father Ted Grin

Mrs Doyle getting into a scrap over the bill lol

Aw, don't feel awkward! You should know it's MN and heaven forbid anyone try to inject a bit of positivity lol
I was happy to see this in the news earlier, (even though I'm not on Isle of Man) as it's good news.
It means it's one step out of all this, what with this and then all the vaccines being rolled out.
We don't all just want to wallow in depressing stats and threads about how the army should be taking over or whatever!

Mumtofourandnomore · 01/02/2021 23:23

I am so pleased for the Island, I also think the three point testing on day 1,6 and 13 is a good idea because this three week circuit breaker occurred due to cases being imported and transmitted during self isolation hence extending beyond the 14 day period - the day 6 test will catch that, so sensible to test during isolation. I’m also impressed because the cases that caused the lockdown had visited nightclubs, restaurants and theatres 😬, yet the IoM stamped it out again 👍. It’s not only good border controls, it’s proper enforcement too......

I grew up on the Island and all my family live there. I can’t wait to see them again sometime soon 🤞

DenisetheMenace · 01/02/2021 23:26

“I’m really pleased for you, just a teeny bit jealous, but still pleased!“

I’m pleased for them too. Not jealous though because I think their parliament is being a bit hasty.
I’ll get my coat Grin

DumplingsAndStew · 02/02/2021 08:47

Please don't feel awkward OP, it is positive news to hear that there is a light ahead for all of us when the time comes.

Enjoy your freedom.

I'm pleased for you OP and it is positive news, but I wonder if some of the negative posts are because of the relatively short time the IOM restrictions have lasted. You had 6 months of normality, with no social distancing, mass gathering allowed, no restrictions on household mixing etc etc. You then had a 3 week lockdown, and now are back to normal, no social distancing, no household restrictions etc. Meanwhile from June here in the UK we have never got rid of social distancing, no mass gatherings allowed, household mixing has been restricted and in many cases not allowed at all for some of the time. IOM last had normality 3 weeks ago, the UK last had normality in March 2020. I think a 3 week lockdown would feel like a tiny blip to me, whereas all our restrictions and lockdowns since March are beginning to feel never ending. The two situations are so different that perhaps people feel that the IOM being l out of lockdown isn't a good sign for the UK because things are and have been so very different here. Many people are also worn down, fed up, depressed, stressed etc etc and possibly finding it hard to see positives in anything.
Not sure if this makes any sense?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 02/02/2021 09:16

Apologies for lack of paragraphs, typing on my phone and didn't realise my post was so long!

CrunchyCarrot · 02/02/2021 09:22

Enjoy it, OP! Hopefully no new variants turn up there! Make the most of it. :)
