Isle of Man is out of lockdown as of today! All restrictions lifted and everything back to normal with just border controls.
Hooray!!!!

  • Note from MNHQ: We've edited the title to make it clear the OP's posting about the Isle of Man only. The original title said: Out of Lockdown! Ends today (and was getting a few people's hopes up)

Saw the news earlier and it made me so happy. I've never been to IOM either. Enjoy your new found freedom and I certainly hope it stays that way for all.

Dotinthecity · 01/02/2021 16:29

Congratulations! I’m pleased for you all. 🎉

sticksandbones · 01/02/2021 16:29

Hmm, maybe I should buy a jetski.

Titterofwit · 01/02/2021 16:30

As I put the kettle on the mark the end of my working from home I heard the news on the radio and I smiled . So happy for IOM.
I have no connections with the island but I know they have worked consistently to keep the island free from the virus. Everyone working together and no nonsense such as being called narks when strangers were spotted breaking the rules .
And I hope the whole damn lot of them are currently drinking their pubs dry .
Cheers to them and hope for our turn to be soon.

Dentistlakes · 01/02/2021 16:33

Brilliant news OP, enjoy it!

DinnaeFashSassenach · 01/02/2021 16:34

Great news! Enjoy yourself OP. I'm an introvert, dislike going out and I'm fairly antisocial but even I would like to be rid of CV and lockdown now! Enjoy it! Safely.

StepOutOfToxicity · 01/02/2021 16:34

All restrictions lifted and everything back to normal with just border controls
The important point here is 'border controls'. Until the UK implements these properly like Isle of Man (and every other country without internal restrictions), everything will never be back to normal.

waltzingparrot · 01/02/2021 16:34

You know OP never actually said they were from Isle of Man.

They might just be exhuberent that somewhere has finally made it out of lockdown.

I bet OP is stuck in locked down Liverpool or some such, wondering how they're going to answer all the 'are you going to the pub tonight?' questions Grin

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 01/02/2021 16:34

Oh how exciting for you!!
Jealous? Me? ....not muchGrin!!!

rwalker · 01/02/2021 16:40

@peak2021
Happy that somewhere that took the virus seriously unlike the UK Prime Minister is able to see the benefit.

There's only 84,00 people on island absolutely no way can you compare isle of man to uk with 69 million people . they've had a hill to climb were scaling a vertical mountian.

made up for people there enjoy

Coyoacan · 01/02/2021 16:41

Are you really going to pretend you're not gloating here, just a little bit?

A comment from one of those people who hates it when her friends have good news.

torquewench · 01/02/2021 16:50

Its all very well sarcastically saying it must be nice to live on an island where the borders can be closed, but when theres only one airport (Im not counting Jurby airfield 😂) and one ferry port, with two sailings a day, its not exactly difficult. And Im assuming people travelling to the island are still going to have to self isolate or go straight to Jurby prison if theyre caught not complying? Id still rather be there though 😍🇮🇲

Mousehole10 · 01/02/2021 17:15

I have no idea where the Isle of Man is and didn’t know they were in a lockdown but happy they are out of it wherever they are!

Thewiseoneincognito · 01/02/2021 17:20

Great news! If only the rest of the UK could do the same. Make the most of your freedom because I suspect you’ll be locked down again once you start venturing off the island. Every day counts!!

littlepattilou · 01/02/2021 17:20

@Mousehole10

It's about 100 miles west of Barrow-In-Furness in Cumbria (North West England.)
littlepattilou · 01/02/2021 17:20

I actually saw the Isle of Man on the lunchtime news, ripping up and removing 'stay 2m apart' signs, and binning their masks, and reopening everything in full.

Whilst I am pleased for anyone who has come out of this hideous never-ending episode of Black Mirror, I can't help feeling they are jumping the gun somewhat.

Even if lockdown IS lifted on 8th March, and by say, 30th April, covid is eradicated from the UK, (imagine that!) I would STILL want social distancing to be in place for the rest of the year, and I certainly wouldn't be binning my mask, or my hand sanitiser!

Newchances · 01/02/2021 17:23

Thats brilliant. Well done and enjoy!

redsquirrelfan · 01/02/2021 17:27

Guernsey is back in lockdown after being covid free for months.

It seems that however hard you try it always sneaks in again! Ditto Western Australia,

redsquirrelfan · 01/02/2021 17:29

I think IOM are a bit silly to scrap the masks - after all, they help keep colds and flu from circulating. I'd be all for wearing them in shops and busy indoor areas between December and February.

ElevenBells · 01/02/2021 17:33

Bloody hell It was only a 3 week circuit breaker! IOM had been business as usual for months before. You cannot possibly compare IOM’s experience with the UK.

DumplingsAndStew · 01/02/2021 17:38

@Goodbye2020Hello2021

Thread title should read 'ISLE OF MAN out of lockdown today'... I thought wtf for a split second there.

Enjoy normality OP!

As long as everyone else starts putting [ENGLAND] in the 99% of other posts about themselves.

No? Didn't think so.

feelinhopeful · 01/02/2021 17:44

Congratulations from Guernsey. Yes we are back in lockdown but enjoyed 7 months of freedom. Hopefully a short sharp lockdown here and we can have the same freedoms again.

Fingers crossed the vaccine starts being effective and restrictions can be lifted world wide.

faerin · 01/02/2021 17:46

@Coyoacan

Are you really going to pretend you're not gloating here, just a little bit?

Not really.

If I were on some tiny little island and just had this devestating lockdown lifted, I'd feel like a bit of a bitch for bragging on forums full of suffering parents.

It's just plain insensitive.

BonnieDundee · 01/02/2021 17:49

How wonderful that must be. Very envious over here on the mainland Smile

AnneElliott · 01/02/2021 18:13

I'm glad for you op. One of my good friends comes from IoM and I've always been keen to visit.

Hopefully in a year or so that will be possible.
