How recently?

BrrrIsland · 31/01/2021 22:04

I was in a similar situation and I was told different things by every person at track & trace.
I think the rule is that if you haven’t finished self isolating at the point your family member has symptoms/ tests positive, then you don’t have to extend your isolation. If you have already ended your isolation before their positive test then you do have to isolate again.

One week ago I tested positive , my son today !

How old is your son?

Smashedavacado · 31/01/2021 22:50

Does your isolation end tomorrow OP? If you only tested positive a week ago does that mean your symptoms started 10 days ago. If that's the case I think you are fine to go to work.

Smashedavacado · 31/01/2021 22:54

Sorry. Unless of course your son needs you at home - as you won't be able to access other child care arrangements. In which case you will need to explain the situation and hopefully they will understand.

PurpleDaisies · 31/01/2021 22:57

You can go back to work if it was only a week ago you were positive and you’re finishing your isolation. If you still have symptoms, you keep isolating though.

You can return to your normal routine and stop self-isolating after 10 full days if your symptoms have gone, or if the only symptoms you have are a cough or anosmia, which can last for several weeks. If you still have a high temperature after 10 days or are otherwise unwell, stay at home and seek medical advice.

needadvice54321 · 31/01/2021 23:10

As others have said, assuming your isolation is due to end tomorrow then you can leave the house. Is your issue more that you can't due to childcare issues?

supafish · 01/02/2021 06:28

No he's 23 , I just want to be sure to do the right thing .Don't want a fine from track and trace who have emailed me .

When I had a positive test I was given to self isolate was 10 days from then. I had frequent reminders of my ‘legal obligation’ to continue to self isolate so I’m not sure how you can go back to work 1 week after a positive test?

Izzy24 · 01/02/2021 06:38

the date I was given

needadvice54321 · 01/02/2021 07:15

izzy, I think it's possible as it's 10 days from the start of symptoms or a positive test - whichever is earlier?

needadvice54321 · 01/02/2021 07:33

@supafish , I think as long as your 10 days are finished today then you're fine to go back to work, where there's a bit of an issue is if your 10 day isolation ended before your son started with symptoms/tested positive, as I think in that instance you have to isolate again - even though the chances of you catching it from him are slim!

Downtown36 · 01/02/2021 07:42

T&T cannot ‘link’ up your data - so despite having your details from your positive test when your son gave your details again as his close contact the system does not link the two up, which is why you’ve had the message to isolate again. As long as your original isolation period is over you can go to work etc.
