Vaccine and alcohol

Why is there not a campaign to tell people not to drink for two days beforehand or why is the information not given when you are notified of your appointment? Just had a text from DF who is now annoyed with himself for having a few glasses of vino last night when he had his vaccine this morning having now received the information not to drink after the vaccine. I did tell DM so thought she would pass this info on to him and he was just choosing to ignore but it seems that she didn’t. Does the government think that old people don’t drink alcohol?

Sounds like you need to lay off the sauce OP

I’ve read this as well.

Personally I will happily not drink for a month if it makes it more effective

It’s not scaremongering or putting off heavy drinkers. Drinkaware has said that heavy drinkers should have the vaccine. There is no interaction with alcohol, it’s just that the vaccine may be less effective. I am quite surprise by the vitriol shown to me on this thread really.

OK. You’re right. The MHRA is wrong. Jeez. 🙄

It is easy to know if alcohol has a big effect.
Did people in the vaccine clinical trials have to abstain from alcohol as you suggest or were they living their lives as usual?I very much doubt they had to abstain for the trials. If they didn't, that means that the vaccine effectiveness it is what it is with the normal consumption of alcohol.
It will have to be a considerable amount of alcohol to affect the immune response

Shit. I had my vaccine on Thursday. Just had 3 gin and tonics. Confused

MoreHairyThanScary · 30/01/2021 21:40

I spent 3 hours today doing the core vaccination e-learning modules and alcohol was not mentioned ( I'm hoping to do a couple more modules tomorrow so will update if there is any mention).

I’m doing a vaccine trial at the moment. There was no mention of not drinking alcohol before or after having the vaccine/ placebo. The only thing we were told we couldn’t do was have a flu jab in the 14 days leading up to the first dose.

CarryOnPlainHunting · 30/01/2021 23:11

A lot of my friends are over 70 and have had this first dose now. Almost all have said that they celebrated with a glass of champagne or a nice bottle of red wine afterwards!

OP - FYI

Is it OK to drink alcohol after Covid vaccine?
“There is no need to abstain from alcohol after either dose of the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Dr. Sandro Cinti, an infectious disease specialist at Michigan Medicine. “There is no evidence or CDC guidance to suggest that this needs to be done.”16 Jan 2021
