Positive test and isolation query?

DS1 (16) had a bad earache last weekend, we think due to trying to clean with a cotton bud (yes he is an idiot!). He hasn’t left the house for 2 weeks, apart from to go in the garden (he is sick of walking, can’t say I blame him). No other symptoms until yesterday when he said his nose felt odd and he couldn’t taste anything. He’s gone for a test first thing this morning.
I’m a TA and have been having LFT, last one was Thursday night which was negative. Clearly we are all now isolating from yesterday until we get results and then will continue if it’s positive. My query is I don’t need to go and have a test do I if I have no symptoms? I’m going to keep doing the LFT anyway and will obviously test if positive. DS2 really struggles to have it done and I’m reluctant to put him through it unless necessary. I have a feeling I’ve already had it back last Feb so I’m wondering if either me or DS2 brought it back from school somehow (he is in as well) and gave it to DS1. I can’t work out how he is the one with it when he hasn’t left the house!!
Btw, I realise ear ache isn’t a symptom but thought I’d mention it as I wondered if it was connected some how.

My BIl did a lateral flow test on Wednesday at work. Negative. Felt a bit fluey Thursday early evening. Did another LFT at home, again negative. Went to the testIng centre a couple of hours later and his test came back positive Thursday.

Zero confidence in LFT

You don’t need a test unless you have symptoms, just isolate with him if he’s positive and if anyone else feels poorly get them a test.

Also no confidence in lft

Thank you! No I’m not entirely sure on the LFT either but it’s better than nothing whilst in school. If it positive then he doesn’t even seem ill. I will obviously test if symptoms but otherwise just isolate for 10 days. I think I actually probably had it before there was widespread testing as I was really poorly.

I'm a nurse. My PCR test came back positive this morning ( routine test taken Friday at work) - I have mild symptoms that started yesterday though. I have lateral flows at home- did one of those out of interest- negative. Zero confidence in them.
