Previous anaphylactic shock

I am in my late sixties and in group 5 for the vaccine. My 74 year old husband has been vaccinated today and he got a letter afterwards. It said to tell the doctor if you have had a previous anaphylactic reaction to a food or medicine. I did, over 40 years ago when I took an anti sickness pill.
I'm torn as to whether to mention it. Would it mean I can't be vaccinated?

no, they would just pick the right vcaccine for you.

You are likely to be offered Oxford and not Pfizer.

My husband wasn't given a choice, it was the Pfizer.

Definitely mention it. My brother suffered anaphylaxis with a vaccine and nearly died.

wowfudge · 29/01/2021 16:36

Yes mention it. I believe you have to wait after being vaccinated for something like 20 minutes before they'll let you leave. This is to ensure you are not suffering any adverse effects/reactions.

He wasn't given a choice, because he can have the Pfizer vaccine. If you have ever had an anaphylactic reaction then you can't have the Pfizer vaccine so will be given the Oxford vaccine (if they have it, or they may need to order it in which is even more so why they need to know).

I had it and had to stay for 20 minutes afterwards, all was fine.

Fembot123 · 29/01/2021 17:53

You must tell them, then they can give you the most appropriate vaccine. What’s the sense in lying and potentially dying??

Thank you for all your comments. I'll contact my GP on Monday and let them know.
