Oxford AZ seem to be expected to save the world, all the grief they're getting - read the attached and see their plans for this year for the vaccine - all at cost.

The EU ie. a group of richer countries throwing toys out of their prams because they have been so slow to approve vaccine, slow to place orders, wanting a better deal/price as they're a bloc.

The day EU approve vaccine the French President also discredits the vaccine as inferior etc

Imagine being AZ Oxford and having achieved all they've achieved and receive this grief from EU to distract from their own ineptitude.

I know. And their press conference was a good reminder of the original excellent vision and speed at which they have accomplished it.

@cyclingmad

I do find it amusing though , so many people think bojo is useless yet this useless man has been smart and shown up the EU, imagine being Merkel or Macron and being out smartest by bojo, can be good for their egos as we are now seeing Grin
This 😂😂😂😂
TollgateDebs · 29/01/2021 18:26

Amazing how this happened after the riots and my don't they stamp their feet when they feel threatened by their own people and media. They were slow to react, slow to order and that's the real issue here, that they just cannot react to anything without the bureaucracy getting in the way. Lawyers have looked at their contract and it doesn't say what they think it does. Also the development money for vaccine research was also from our contributions in the past too. Grief, don't they throw their teddies out of the pram when they are being attacked for their tardiness.

Musicaldilemma · 29/01/2021 18:26

Has the White House said anything yet?

Cam77 · 29/01/2021 18:26

@paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking
Sure, the EU parliament is scapegoating the U.K. government for its own mess up. But that’s what the U.K. spent the last 5 years doing to the EU. So the EU doesn’t need to do much to whip up distrust and animosity of the UK - it’s already there. Can you blame them?

marbellamarc · 29/01/2021 18:27

And for that matter, the UK has spent 4 years shouting fuck the lot of you at the EU. It's time to wake up and realise you have no friends left.

Boris has done a great PR job on you lot. Bought up a load of vaccines are you forget about every other terrible thing they've done, its genius in one way. Relies on the gullibility of the British public, but then half of them fell for the NHS bus and all the Brexit lies, so not hard.

My mum got her vaccine 2 weeks ago, I'm thrilled. No Boris PR needed or friends.

Wildswim · 29/01/2021 18:27

Faisal Islam has tweeted-

"Looks like a land border for eu vaccines on island of Ireland.

"Interesting to see what Dublin thinks about this?"

Unbelievable. EU spends four years pontificating about how there could under no circumstances ever be a land border on the island of Ireland, yet imposes one weeks into Brexit.

You couldn't make this up.

And yes I wonder what the Irish government makes of it now. Simon Coveney? Still best mates with Barnier and your pals at the EU who you believed treated you as a valued member of the inner clique?

DamnUserName21 · 29/01/2021 18:28

I understand about Article 16. The EU has overridden part of the Northern Ireland Brexit deal.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-55864442

Unfucking believable! If the British government did that, we'd be in a world of shit.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/01/2021 18:28

surely if it was only 4m the most neighbourly thing to say to the EU is that once they have approved the vaccine, we will allow AZ to send back the same amount that was sent here?

Even if it was the right thing to do, I very much doubt it would stop with the 4 million; as said, the EU will probably want more (and I think someone said the shortfall's nearer 70 million)

IcedPurple · 29/01/2021 18:28
Macron’s comments about the AZ vaccine being ‘quasi ineffective in over 65’. What a mess, does this not feed anti vaxxers in France? They have more vaccine scepticism than here in the U.K and this surely isn’t going to help.

www.politico.eu/article/coronavirus-vaccine-europe-astrazeneca-macron-quasi-ineffective-older-pe/
Yeah I was shocked by that. He's a politican. What does he know about vaccine efficacy? If France decides not to use AZ on older people that's up to them, but it's for the relevant authorities to decide and announce, not the president.

Sour grapes because the Sanofi vaccine he supposedly pressured the EU into buying is still nowherenear completion?

Stupid idiots.

You'd think during a pandemic they would grow up a little bit? Fortunately Id argue the UK public haven't bought into the EU PR & would share.

BelleHathor · 29/01/2021 18:29

@FOJN

I feel very sorry for Astra Zeneca.

So do I. Talk about no good deed goes unpunished. I hope they sue and win.

Definitely should sue for "reputational damage" and also the negligence in disclosing confidential, proprietary information by incorrect redaction..... Would have my lawyees looking into cancelling the contract due to an irretrievable breakdown in relationship. Props to Pfizer considering moving their manufacturing stateside. The fact that other pharmaceutical were and are currently having problems with manufacturing only strengthens AZ "best efforts".
Angrymum22 · 29/01/2021 18:29

AstraZeneca have had manufacturing plants in Belgium for over 30yrs (my dad helped design some of them) I am fairly certain as a company they are well versed and advised in Belgium law.

Cam77 · 29/01/2021 18:29

@Hammonds
The U.K. has a lot of extremely talented and capable people working using their skills and knowledge for the benefit of the country. Bozo isn’t one of them.

CrotchBurn · 29/01/2021 18:30

@Wildswim
The Irish economy is massively reliant on the EU. It wouldnt exist without it. Their government will now do an epic U turn and "welcome" the border as an act of solidarity or some other such shite

DamnUserName21 · 29/01/2021 18:30

The govt funded and advanced purchased them long before the continual fuck ups.

hypocritical eejits

MarshaBradyo · 29/01/2021 18:32

I love that Pfizer might move manufacturing

It’s the last thing EU would want but it’s from their own actions

CrotchBurn · 29/01/2021 18:34

In all fairness though I do feel for the Irish government. Its hands are pretty much tied. It relies on both sides equally in different ways but there is historic resentment towards the UK. The only way RoI can maintain its economic existence is through its membership of the EU. However, it is geographically and historically involved with the UK. It's a pretty fine line to tread.

Backbee · 29/01/2021 18:34

And for that matter, the UK has spent 4 years shouting fuck the lot of you at the EU. It's time to wake up and realise you have no friends left.

Ah well, we might not have friends but at least we have plenty of jabs.

The only comments about Boris on this thread are that he hasn't said anything on the matter publically (which is true), and someone has said more or less said that he is such a blundering idiot it must be embarrassing for them to have done worse than he has. It's also a thread to discuss the vaccines, not the response as a whole. Would you like some salt for the chip on your shoulder though?

BBCONEANDTWO · 29/01/2021 18:34

@Mingmoo

I really get where you're coming from - but who's to say that you and your dad are any more important than someone in South Africa, Brazil, India who might not have enough vaccine.

If you were looking at ethics you'd have to look worldwide.

Sorry, I can't quote this for some reason but yes, I don't think I should be vaccinated before someone vulnerable in SA or Brazil. The point is that if all the vulnerable people are vaccinated should we look to taper the supply of vaccines. My DH has been done through his work and they had severe trouble finding people to take up the vaccines they were offering, in a bit of the health service that deals with very sick people. About a quarter of their doses a day were not being taken up by staff and they were having to bring in people like my DH who is part-time and really not a priority, so as not to waste a dose. I'm glad DH has been done but he's 43 and fit and well.

This is the problem with the rich countries being able to get the vaccine before other poorer countries. I don't know what the solution actually is - but if rich countries have enough and excess vaccination IMO they should concentrate on giving it to countries who are really suffering e.g. India, Brazil, Mexico - but we'd probably end up giving the doses to Australia/NZ who are doing well.
Waspnest · 29/01/2021 18:37

I read the BBC article and I'm still a bit clueless.

So is the EU breaking international law like the UK government was told it was doing?!

Cam77 · 29/01/2021 18:39

@marbellamarc
The U.K. is not a member state. It has no say in how the EU chooses to act to protect the interests of its members.

CaveMum · 29/01/2021 18:39

I’d imagine there’s a lot of lobbying from Commonwealth countries right now. I wouldn’t be surprised if those are the places any UK excess end up, at least to begin with.
