I'm bored. Any ideas for what to do for weekends that doesn't involve a short walk to the park. DS is 6 DDis 9

Bike ride, scooter ride, pokemon hunt, scavenger hunt, sun rise watch, sunset watch.

bellagogosdead · 29/01/2021 07:51

I get it. Days off are the worst.

DrunkenKoala · 29/01/2021 07:52

We’ve got sleet forecast all day so I guess we’ll be baking. We’ve got a gingerbread man pack left over from Christmas so may do those.

Tickly · 29/01/2021 07:57

Treasure hunt, Local national trust property for some tree climbing, bike riding, movie day, home Olympics, crafts?

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 29/01/2021 07:59

Following for ideas (for tomorrow Grin)

Torvi · 29/01/2021 08:02

I feel the same. I'm dreading half term.

Porcupineintherough · 29/01/2021 08:03

Geocaching? Bike ride?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 29/01/2021 08:06

Looks like we'll have snow so it'll be hot chocolate and maybe hot dogs (cook sausages then keep warm in a food thermos) and snowball fights on the park.

Other than that for outdoor stuff we pick a new route regularly like the woods, the canal etc and take scooter/bike or football for variety.

Indoors

  • movie day with popcorn, curtains closed, nachos
-baking
  • treasure hunt/escape room
  • disco party dancing in the living room
  • random picnic/buffet parties, generally themed like Mexican, retro kids party, unicorn

And very often just a PJ slob around, watch too much telly and eat crap day

JoeJames · 29/01/2021 08:10

I will take snow if we can get it, lots of zoom dance on Saturday if I'm honest so will need to come up with something for Sunday, maybe a long and complicated board game

OP posts:
JoeJames · 29/01/2021 08:11

And then tears and arguments about said board game

What about using Youtube for virtual Disney land/world tours of rides, parks and also the character parades?
Actually really good fun and there’s loads of content on there. Just make sure you know the names of the rides you want to search and also select the latest dates you can find, as the newer videos are way better.
Disney Plus also has a great series behind the scenes at Florida’s Animal Kingdom. It’s actually really informative, focusing on an array of animals and sea creatures, talking about their habitat, conservation, veterinary care etc. All with a big Disney smileGrin
Crack open the popcorn and have a trip to Disney from home.
Added bonus, even if they start campaigning to be taken in person, well they can’t because, you know....COVID.

FuckOffBorisYouTwat · 29/01/2021 08:17

We have a games competition, find lots of short of games better than a long one that ends in fights.

userxx · 29/01/2021 08:21

A good supply of decent red wine 🍷

Daisypaisy2 · 29/01/2021 08:25

Baking?

LadyCatStark · 29/01/2021 08:29

We have to go and get the car serviced, so we’re teaming it up with a McDonalds breakfast. Eaten in the car. I can’t believe how pathetic our lives have become that this feels like a treat and a day out! While the car is serviced, we’ll walk around a different route which is almost too exciting to bear 🙈.

OhTheTastyNuts · 29/01/2021 08:30

We usually let DSs (8 and 10) play Minecraft over Skype with their friends. Fills a couple of hours and gives them some much-needed social contact.

It's the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend, which we will be doing.

Lego. So much Lego.

We'll go for a long walk or bike ride. No one is that enthusiastic about it anymore (unlike the summer lockdown when we were out walking for hours every day).

Download Pokemon Go? My DC love it and it's a fairly easy way to get them out on an otherwise uninspiring walk. There are regular weekend events too (virtual, cam be done locally). If Pokemon isn't their thing, there is a Harry Potter version called (I think) Wizards Unite.

MuddyWalk5007 · 29/01/2021 08:36

We’ll go for another walk. Some days I hate it but we know it does us good so we drag ourselves out.
I’m meeting a friend for an early one then taking Dcs after breakfast.
Baking in the afternoon then zoom call with family after dinner.
Tidying up (kids need to do their rooms), screen time including a film, will take up the rest of the day.

We’ve yet to play any board games but we probably will on Sunday.

Ohdoleavemealone · 29/01/2021 08:43

Probably monopoly and a film with some sweets. Yet another walk - recently bought boots so we can do muddy, more fun routes, that takes our choices of route to 3!

Might extend the sweet giving by hiding them round the house with clues on them!

frozendaisy · 29/01/2021 08:47

Disco.

Cally62 · 29/01/2021 08:48

RSPB bird watch survey online. It starts today. Only for one hour to count the birds that come into your garden. You could make some food balls with lard/peanut butter and seeds. Or if you have any pine cones cover in lard and seeds.

HaggisTheGreat · 29/01/2021 08:58

Talk of bird food always reminds me of the fat balls thread in mumsnet classics. That could easily kill a happy couple of hours of the weekend with some wine

Cally62 · 29/01/2021 17:35

Love your thinking re Wine HaggisTheGreat

Will try that tomorrow, in the morning actual Saturday

Hope your Friday wasn't too arrrggghhhh JoeJames Have a lovely weekend. Smile

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 29/01/2021 18:05

Waterproof coveralls and Mud pies. Go out with them to find all the decorations and provide dirt water and old pans and tin trays, spoons and blunt knives.
They'll leave you alone for ages.
