jeering about loss of human life

Where?

Justthebeerlighttoguide · 29/01/2021 10:53

Alexis - the EU has proved this time and time and time again, they cannot - move quickly enough to protect anyone.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 29/01/2021 10:55

@zafferana, me too.

Yep- I agree.
buffyp · 29/01/2021 10:55

@Avondklok

British variant is now rampant in Europe due to selfish people travelling over Xmas.
Rubbish. Provide hard evidence or stop spouting nonsense. People like you who don’t give a shit about the side effects of lockdown are every bit as selfish IMO.
thedancingbear · 29/01/2021 10:57

@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter

Thousands of you are going to die and you can't have the cure! Tee hee!

Well the EU doesnt seem to give a shit about this do they? otherwise they would have sorted this mess out months ago. Maybe direct your fury at them considering that THEY are the ones responsible for the delay, they should have acted sooner to ensure the quick rollout of vaccines. But no, its got nothing to do with them has it?- instead its a random person on a message board.

Pathetic.

This would make sense if the EU countries didn't have a far, far better record of protecting their citizens from illness and death than we have. We have the worst death rate per capita of any major country.

You are right, the EU seems to have fucked up its vaccination drive. But this is a human tragedy, not a political football or a cause for cheery gloating.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 29/01/2021 10:59

I agree with you- its awful and the consequences will be tragic. But that is NOT our fault and we are not wrong to want AZ to fulfil the vaccine order that we paid for. We cannot be responsible for every other country in the EU. This is the fault of the EU and noone else.

I haven't seen any gloating on this thread about people dying FFS- please link to it if you have and I will report it.

NoseinBook3 · 29/01/2021 11:01

It’s the EU Government I take issues with. Not the EU people. I feel sorry for the EU people.

Jaxhog · 29/01/2021 11:02

Much as I supported staying in the EU and think we should be fair, a tiny part of me is secretly pleased that we got ahead of the EU with vaccinating!

Ihatefish · 29/01/2021 11:03

@thedancingbear -but that’s not exactly true is it. Look at suicide rates in Europe. France is nearly double that of the U.K. only the largely Catholic countries come close and you would expect them to have really low rates.

MrsMauryBallstein · 29/01/2021 11:03

Completely agree. All this flag waving is also incredibly short sighted - it is in our own interests that EU countries should be properly vaccinated.

Plus it is way to early to judge whether the EU has screwed up or been screwed over - we need to see the AZ contract to understand what has happened.

redsquirrelfan · 29/01/2021 11:04

And it is in the EU's interest that people in the UK are properly vaccinated many of whom are EU citizens

Ihatefish · 29/01/2021 11:07

@Jenasaurus

So if they discover that the AZ vaccine isnt effective against the South African Variant, does that mean those that have had it will need the Noravax one as well?
Probably and this will keep happening-with the best will it is likely the covid vaccine will follow the flu vaccine and be given to the most vulnerable-all this talk of vaccine passports will never happen (as the government knows) as it will be impossible to keep vaccinating everyone against every strain
Graffitiqueen · 29/01/2021 11:08

DH is part of this trial!

FitzsimmonsMarvel · 29/01/2021 11:11

@HelloThereMeHearties gosh you really are pathetic! Did you miss that all the Pfizer vaccines that came here came from the EU? Did you miss that the EU paid in advance for Astra vaccines that are now not being delivered on the date that they had contractually agreed to? Did you miss that the Novavax was funded by the US to the tune of 1.6 billion dollars.

You are pathetic with your crowing over the EU and even worse that you then try to justify it with a childish ‘but they started it’

Bluethrough · 29/01/2021 11:11

No we are not but the EU is saying they also want their AZ contract fulfilled, just as we want ours honoured too.

ATM we are heading for export controls and retaliatory action.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 29/01/2021 11:14

@thedancingbear "We have the worst death rate per capita of any major country".

This is in large part because of the way we are counting deaths - wrongly, in my opinion. I understand that in the UK anyone diagnosed in the previous 28 days who subsequently dies is attributed to Covid-19, even if they were run over by a bus. You would think there would be an international protocol for things like this so accurate comparisons could be made.

Interestingly, I read the other day that if we were counting deaths the same way as the Germans we'd "only" be at around 25,000.

FitzsimmonsMarvel · 29/01/2021 11:15

@Hopeisnotastrategy oh god and now we have a conspiracy theorist trotting out the old ‘ if I got hit by a bus it’s a covid death’ line Biscuit

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 29/01/2021 11:16

No we are not but the EU is saying they also want their AZ contract fulfilled, just as we want ours honoured too

But if a contract is not fulfilled- you dont just take the item off other people to get it! Thats between you and the person who agreed the contract. If I place an order at Tescos and they dont fulfil it, can I just grab the items out of someone else's shopping? its ridiculous

Worse case scenario it might mean that people don't get their 2nd dose so that will be a complete and utter waste of time for us ALL. It would also be a human rights issue. What frustrates me is- instead of all this tit for tat banter, why dont we work together to see how we can compromise and best serve our populations. It feels like all the EU cares about is punishing us, not actually getting the vaccines out.

DamnUserName21 · 29/01/2021 11:17

I would love to see the AZ contract with the EU (and have it explained by experts!) to get to the truth of matter. The EU have requested its release but AZ haven't (or will not) as yet.
AZ have said they agreed to supply the UK first but I don't know if this is in contract.

ArabellaScott · 29/01/2021 11:17

@feelingverylazytoday

It will really wind the EU up Really? Bit of a childish reaction. People in the EU deserve to be protected against this horrible virus as much as British people do. It's not a competition.
This, ffs.
toconclude · 29/01/2021 11:19

@Avondklok

The EU PAID 300 million euros so AZ could set up production.
Don't confuse @HelloThereMeHearties with facts. Their mind is made up.

False. Confirmation bias, look it up.

That's really interesting. Can you provide evidence for this fairly extreme claim?

Agree with this to a point. I do feel the EU wants to get vaccines out ASAP but I also feel they want to stick it to the UK for leaving massively.
