Why do people fall for this shit?

A friend of mine has just posted this conspiracy theory website:

www.stopworldcontrol.com/full/

She whole=heartedly believes every word. Why?

I have spent most of my afternoon off reading it and then the sources underneath. Over half them do not say even remotely what the article says they do and the other half (so far) only say it if you take it completely out of context.

Why are people so stupid/ gullible/ easily led?

I'm not saying I believe everything in the mainstream media - I don't I'm a scientist and researcher by training so tend to skip the media altogether and go straight to the research to form my own conclusions but they definitely fall more closely aligned with the mainstream media, no matter how I try to read it!

I have no idea OP. I really don't. It's absolutely tragic that there are people who can actually get past the title without breaking down laughing hysterically - the plan to control the whole world.

Right. Okee doke then

Honestly I would just back away very quickly and not look back if you know someone who believes this ! Even the picture is ludicrous. I couldn't read any further than that

Orangeblossom1977 · 28/01/2021 16:00

Maybe it's easier to believe than the reality?

Forgetmenot157 · 28/01/2021 16:07

The reason people believe this crap is because they are terrified to admit that the human race is no match for mother nature and the fact we are just tiny pawns in this game of life.

WanderingFruitWonderer · 28/01/2021 16:07

I don't know. But it's scary. I do feel sorry for such vulnerable people

Forgetmenot157 · 28/01/2021 16:09

The funniest thing is the point that we are vaccinating the elderly and not the young....

Because... You know... The elderly are the ones who need to be controlled by the lizard people, not the young generation who will Shape how humans live on earth.

I know! I just don't understand it!

It's personal preference, not everyone is a scientist or likes to conduct research about something they don't believe.
I'm not suggesting they are right or wrong, but do remember they think you are gullible/ stupid and eaily led Grin

ItsDinah · 28/01/2021 16:16

Because they don't have priests/congregations to keep them in bounds.

Noodle765 · 28/01/2021 16:17

Personal observation: is seems like the less educated, the more likely they are to believe this crap...?

Forgetmenot157 · 28/01/2021 16:22

May be out of order to say but my bet is loads of them who believe this stuff are also part of MLMs

I mean I actually see your point I guess. I'm not religious atall.. But look at the bible if we're going on a science based argument then 99% of the Bible would be classed as a conspiracy theory.. ( however I will say the values the bible teachers are very good so it does have a positive impact)

FWIW, the person who posted this is actually a devout Christian.

Funnily enough, she does! She doesn't sell them but advertises and buys from them like billyo.

Some people are easily led. Some out of fear. You might wonder why millions in 1932 in Germany voted for the Nazis, for example.

Devlesko · 28/01/2021 16:34

Why did so many people vote to leave the EU?
There were some idiotic as well as grounded reasons people gave.
Some were easily led to believe we were getting all those millions for the NHS. As if a conservative gov would ever do this Grin

sally067 · 28/01/2021 16:39

Critical thinking skills just aren't developed when these people are younger.

Mintypylonsfryingsurplus · 28/01/2021 16:42

There are some interesting theories and patterns in physchology of people who believe in alternative/conspiracy theories. Including narcissim, personality disorders and an inability to face reality so quite complex mental health.
Its radicalism though if you try to push it onto others and can become very dangerous if enough people then give it cult status.
Someone close to me believes the conspiricies, tells me over and over I am thick and do not apply critical thinking!
I just ignore now its just too much dealing with real life at moment let alone some far fetched bollox with no real evidence or reality.
We as a society will never be fully controlled by some order some of us starting questioning religion etc years ago!

Bitbusyattheminute · 28/01/2021 16:46

Because we're all peasants at heart, who are one pandemic away from carrying posies around with us to ward off the terrible miasma. Centuries of trying to make us into rational beings fails, because people just have a feeling.

And Gove told us not to trust experts.

AuntyClementine · 28/01/2021 16:47

The world is a random place and that can be be quite scary if someone is a little dim (or even if they aren’t). Convincing yourself that there is a purpose or a design to it all - a guiding hand - can offer comfort, even if the people in control aren’t benevolent.

It’s similar to the people who think that we’re in the current mess because of widespread rule breaking. It’s comforting because it means that it can all sorted if people start to behave themselves. It’s more palatable than the reality, which is that there’s only so much we can do to control the virus unless we’re all willing to be locked in the house forever.

SirGawain · 28/01/2021 16:50

I very amused that people think that there is some vast international conspiricy led by powerful people.
In reality why and how would thes people with very different world, political and religious outlooks get together to secretly and malignly rule the world.
In addition, how could they be as successful in the claimed conspiracy when the make such a cockup in their day jobs.

SonnetForSpring · 28/01/2021 16:53

The majority of people believe what they want to believe (even if they don't realise it). We all filter information through our own unique lenses.

thosetalesofunexpected · 28/01/2021 17:01

@Updatemate
I don't believe in these kinds of Conspiracy theories, because there has been so much Change, and uncertainty on a scale a magnitude that's its seismic in our society and obviously around the world.
Caused by a small size virus that can only be seen under a microscope and yet a virus as small as this has wrecked total devastation with human lives, way of life etc.
I am not surprised its so mind blowing just thinking how much our lives all have changed and so fast and such a vast, far reaching, around the world.

I am not surprised some people believe in this kind of trash,
(If someone had predicted this could happen a few years, we would have thought they were losing the plot mentally an needed help.

Its been such a extremely weird ,
2020 year and this new year has been such a extreme times we are living at Covid 19 out break,Climate change issues, Donald Trump Former Gov and the Propaganda mill (of trying to manipulate the the narractive news media channels,so called fake News.
And the rise of pro active human rights movements/envoriments etc.

Has made some people vulnerable clinging on grasping with isolation of so many Lockdowns to feel part of something they see from their viewpoint as part of the bigger picture,(feeling connected, and feeling they are in the know, that they know something that not switched on people like sheeples don't know of yet, kind of mentality .

Also people who believe in this kind of rubbish it gives them comfort/a sense of security like religion does to some people,at stressfull times of uncertainty as there is so much social unrest for e.g human rights groups have gained a greater promiencec(Black lives matter etc.

I think conspiracy Theories are 21 century equilvent to in medieval times when people believed in superstion like witches had speacial powers to decieve society and earthquakes were a sign of the wrath of the Gods being provoked by peoples free will of disobedience of society rules etc idea.

Tal45 · 28/01/2021 17:02

I think it takes a certain kind of person to believe in things, whether that's god or MLM's or conspiracy theories.

Whoopsmahoot · 28/01/2021 17:06

Absolutely hilarious- 187 countries world wide are taking part to control us. 🤣 It’s so important to micro chip my 80 year old parents as they are such a risk to society with their evil ways 🤣🤣

frozendaisy · 28/01/2021 17:08

Got to "transhuman," that just doesn't mean anything at all, and gave up.

Let them get on with it.

There are many, many real valid reasons to be pissed off about lockdown. Honestly do we need to add nanobots into the mix?

The conspirators who post this know what they are doing. There is a disturbing correlation between conspiracy theories and far-right groups.

If you want to save a loved one from the rabbit-hole, perhaps point out that there are many groups who want you to distance yourself from reasoned debate, they want control of the information you see, surely this is more believable than nanobots!
