Hi everyone,
I wonder if there’s any other special school staff on here that are struggling.
I feel like we’ve been forgotten in all of this, there’s hardly a mention about special schools in the news and even the unions don’t help us much even though like early years we are open for all.
I have worked in a very large special school for a decade and I love it, not a day goes by that the kids don’t make me smile, it really is so rewarding. However, I am so worried now because of the overlap of education and healthcare in our job is being ignored. We carry out medical procedures such as tracheotomy suction and tube changes which is an aerosol generating procedure, gastronomy feeds, etc and a lot of personal care yet we are not being offered the vaccine like other carers and healthcare providers.
Is anyone else feeling like this?

Not for me, I feel my risk assessment has been well done.

For my colleagues and for all those Sen schools who haven't been included in this, thanks to the dfe.

All the special school staff I know have had their vaccines this week. I’m really pleased for them. They are a whole lot more frontline than a lot of nhs staff.

Hi everyone,
I thought I’d just up date this with some good news.
On Monday the staff in my school were told we were now eligible for the vaccine. I was sent a link to book my vaccine on Tuesday and actually had the vaccine on Wednesday afternoon. I have also had fit testing for the appropriate PPE (FFP3) for when I’m performing AGPs today. To say I am relieved is an understatement.
I really hope all other special school staff are offered it soon, as well as early years and mainstream. Not to mention other professions with a public facing role.
Take care everyone and enjoy your half term.

Its ridiculous - our SALT is currently WFH and doing sessions online ( which translates as sending over a powerpoint for us to do...

She has had her jab as she is NHS staff. Even though she doesn't step foot into the classroom. She cannot be a day over 40...

Two of my support staff, who are providing hands on care (including personal care) every day to children who cannot social distance, are over 60. When are they going to get a jab?
