Do you feel sorry for Boris?

Seeing the headlines in the papers today and there seems a lot of sympathy for him. The front pages see him looking really forlorn and sorrow regarding the death toll.

When you think a year ago he was planning on ushering in what he deemed as a golden age of Britain. Now 12 months later it's in tatters.

I can understand the sympathy, but wonder whether a Labour PM would be offered the same.

Nope. He's deceitful and totally self-serving like the warmonger Tony Blair, but less cunning with it. Poor diddums that the virus stole his "get Brexit done" glory.

His grovelling over the deaths earlier this week was undoubtedly planned and carefully timed, and I expect he will resign just before the fallout from lockdown (millions unemployed, people losing their homes, suicides) rears its ugly head; he'll leave all that to somebody else to deal with, perhaps with a parting note of "there's no money left".

His epitaph would be "Look me in the eyes, while I swear that I handled the pandemic as well as I could."

Similarly, Blair: "Look me in the eyes, while I swear that war in Iraq was the right thing to do." (Yes, I know that this thread is not about Tony Blair, but I think he and Boris Johnson have a lot in common, mostly in privilege and levels of deceit; and Blair is the reason I've loathed politics in general.)

Disgree. Blair (and Brown) is way worse and deceitful and damaging to the nation as a whole.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 28/01/2021 14:21

@Whythesadface

We are to blame ...Us. We are not sheep. According to the know it alls on here, voluntary house arrest is the answer. Guess what, people won't do that , you didn't. Your teens, children who sneak out to visit friends, your the parent, why have you allowed this. Some of You went on holiday, you should have stayed home. You could have given up your jobs and locked down, oh yeah there's that thing called wages. So how come you didn't save enough for 2 years after all you new this would happen. Get real , no one could have realised how bad this would be.
And the government could have done nothing to impact the situation? It's all down to individual responsibility?

They've done quite a number on you.

And how do you work that out? I'd love to see the reasoning behind your thinking.
middleager · 28/01/2021 14:28

No, and I wish he could stand trial for his many crimes.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 28/01/2021 14:30

Blair and Brown killed more than 100,00 people between them? Man, was that news buried!

Evidence base?
kurtrussellsbeard · 28/01/2021 14:34

No.

yearinyearout · 28/01/2021 14:39

Not one bit. He's always wanted to be PM and he's just not up to the bloody job. His U turn on brexit in order to land the top job was a total joke.

trulydelicious · 28/01/2021 15:16

@NoWordForFluffy

My mother voted this lot in. She's really pissed off at the incompetence and has written to her MP calling for BoZo to resign

Well, that's her opinion, fair enough.

A lot of posters here are contributing a balanced view, rather than resorting to aggressiveness and insults just because they are repulsed by his background

trulydelicious · 28/01/2021 15:30

@IncludeWomenInTheSequel

I'd like to see them and report them if you can point me in the right direction?

Racism, prejudice and intolerance is rife on this thread.

It's both explicit and covert. I'm sorry if you cannot see this. I will not help these posters shine by repeating what they've said. Some of the comments are appalling.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/01/2021 15:36

There is NO racism against BoZo in this thread.

There's intolerance related to his incompetence. But you're clutching at straws to say he's subject to prejudice. You're doing your argument a disservice by making stuff up.

Stellaris22 · 28/01/2021 15:39

Where has a poster been racist against Boris Johnson?

I know it's made up because it's an outright lie, but if you really feel strongly that someone has then you should be reporting it.

So there's no racism then. Just as I thought.

If you see anyone going 'Damn our white PM' do report it.

Stellaris22 · 28/01/2021 15:44

@trulydelicious

You can't make a statement about posters being racist and not point out where. It's a very strong statement. Point out the poster and what they said, report it.

Or make a formal apology and take back your remark.

Seriously? You might want to unpack that for me because I certainly didn’t see 100,000 excess deaths and economic Armageddon on Blair or Brown’s watches.
HesterShaw1 · 28/01/2021 15:45

Do I fuck.

Sorry - what??

Gordon Brown would be a godsend if he were to walk into number 10 tomorrow. He has ability, he has humanity, and he's not ridiculously desperate to be liked.

This is the first comment that I saw on Page 2. Many more follow

What about his immensely privileged background has caused you to feel sorry for him?

I won't go through the 26 pages copying and pasting examples. Feel free to do that if you like

AlphaJura · 28/01/2021 15:47

No. You can say it's stressful and he's under pressure but if he can't handle it, maybe he's not up to the job! Every leader is under pressure. The pandemic is global and some have coped with it better than others. Jacinda Adern of New Zealand has handled it really well imo. I feel sorry for all the people and their families who've died from disastrous Tory policies and austerity and the 100k who've lost lives in this pandemic.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 28/01/2021 15:47

I mean, there are dozens of reasons to dislike him, but being Caucasian isn't exactly top of the list.

Sorry that I cant see it Grin Save your silly faux sadness that I'm unable to see racism where it doesnt exists.

I think his privileged background is relevant to where he is today. Do you honestly believe that if he hadn't gone to Eton, with half the cabinet, he would be where he is now? You honestly think that if Johnson had gone to a comp in Bradford, he'd be Mayor of London or Prime Minister?

He's incompetent at every level. Of course his background is relevant and it's stating a fact to say that he comes from a privileged background, because he does. His privilege also protects him from the decisions he is making because it doesn't affect him. It has also given him his arrogance and sense of entitlement.

How is that prejudice? It’s a statement of fact that his background was privileged. After all, he did go to Eton and Oxford, it doesn’t get much more privileged than that.

You're the accuser, it's up to you to prove if.

No @trulydelicious you need to prove your dangerous statement.

Or admit you lied and apologise.
