Do we think an extension delaying opening or is he going to try and get children back in sooner...

I have to say I think the latter would be a fucking disaster but I wouldn’t be at all surprised...

Teachers should definitely be vaccinated but....

It will take 3 weeks for any immunity to kick in.
It doesn’t protect teachers families
It won’t prevent community spread.

lovelemoncurd · 27/01/2021 13:24

OFSTED have announced they are only going to be inspecting early years provision or SEN until September so I wouldn't hold your breath.

@DrinkFeckArseGirls

Why not Y5 of whom some will be doing 11+. Although schools don’t prepare for the exam, it’s important that this year group has good basics taught at school.
The 11+ is hardly a priority.
Lanzo · 27/01/2021 13:24

I thought you needed to have 2 vaccines several weeks apart and then wait a 2-3 weeks after the second vaccine.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 27/01/2021 13:25

Delayed until 5pm

I cant believe they would be so stupid as to send schools back before Easter

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 27/01/2021 13:25

@WaterBottle123

Does anyone have a source or link for this announcement claim pls?

lazylump72 · 27/01/2021 13:26

Wheres the education secretary? Is he still in hiding?!

x2boys · 27/01/2021 13:26

For personal reasons I hope teachers in special school,s get access to the vaccine asap ,these teachers should be treated the same as Care workers imo ,as a lot will be providing personal care to very vulnerable children.

LST · 27/01/2021 13:27

I hope it is to open primaries. Even if it is just for the infants (reception to year 2)

Electricwigglefish · 27/01/2021 13:27

I can see no news on this announcement. Link please.

theneverendinglaundry · 27/01/2021 13:28

I want to end this, I don't want to roll neep going backwards abdominal forwards.

It's going to be a insane choice to send all dc back to mix right now.

I want to be safe and push on through for as long as possible. One child with that new SA strain would go like a Bush fire through school and send it into the wider community!

Why risk it until earner weather and let us know all get vaccinated?

Justthebeerlighttoguide · 27/01/2021 13:30

Neep!! Abdominals😂 sorry...

catatecheese · 27/01/2021 13:30

desperately hoping they vaccinate teachers asap and school s back after half term.
The damage being done to children through school closures is truly horrific and government know the damage which is why they tried to keep them open.

Depends on local authorities I think but my sister, who teaches in a special needs school, has just had the vaccine.
ASmallMovie · 27/01/2021 13:32

If schools return before widespread vaccination we'll be back in full lockdown with a variant which doesn't respond to the current vaccines before the end of the year.

It's grim. God I wish my kids were in school. But we're in the middle of a pandemic and a mutating virus.

NoseinBook3 · 27/01/2021 13:32

Delayed till 5?

TwelvePaws · 27/01/2021 13:33

Keir Starmer has said vaccinate teachers over half term and reopen schools

Thank god - someone with a brain at last

🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I can’t believe that there are people out there so dim and yet think they’re so clever. This wouldn’t work.

x2boys · 27/01/2021 13:34

That's brilliant @JuneFromBethesda unfortunately they are not priority in my LEA and my son,s special school is closed .

FoxInSocks2 · 27/01/2021 13:35

@MiaMarshmallows teachers to be vaccinated with both doses within three weeks? That won't work and even then there has to be a period of time before the vaccine is effective.

Not to worry about the children passing it between each other and bringing it home.
